Is there a rule of thumb pertaining to battery size and ohms in a mech? For instance, to be safe if your using 18650 batteries don't go below _____ohms. 14900 ____ohms. Not that i am worried because im getting a kick2 with my new batteries, just want to be safe.

Yes there is, it's called the AMP RATING. I try to never exceed 50% of a batteries amp rating.
The battery I'm using ATM is an IMR 18490, which is rated at 16 amps. Half that would be 8 amps, which means I'm safe down to about 0.5 ohms.

Just understand that every type of battery of every size has a different amp rating. There are lots of 18650's that have a lower amp rating than that IMR 18490.

    I'm assuming you're talking about sub-ohms?

    Sub-Ohm Battery Chart

    Ohm's Law Calculator

Battery Basics for Mods - has list of high drain battery amp limits

If you are talking about factory-built coils, you won't have to worry about that stuff. You can either use the Ohm + 2 Formula (2.0 ohm + 2 = 4 volts).

Or use the Safe Vaping Power Chart.

The Kick 2 lowest ohm is 0.5 so even maxed out @15W the current would be aprx 5.48A but think that the Kick 2 pulls some of it's own amperage as has a max 8A draw, I'd advise not using 18350's with it and using AW18500 or many of the available Safe Chemistry 18650 with over 10A ratings.

I can only use 14900 with the kick 2 in my mod. The 18650's make it about 2 threads too short.

Sounds like you have protected ICR 18650's. You will find that IMR batteries are shorter. There are also flat top batteries as well as button top.
    As an example:
I have a HCigar Nemesis (combination edition) The 18650 tube is to long for IMR batteries, an ICR fits perfectly. With the Kick & kick sleeve the ICR's are to long, and the IMR fits perfectly.
There is a company called FatDaddyVapes that carries replacement contact pins for most of the popular mechanical PV's to resolve compatiblity problems.
