From what it sounds like, I THINK the problem is with your reader. You said while screwing the Hatty base in, the reader intermittently read ohms. That tells me that the reader center pin is spring loaded but you aren't getting a good connection.

If you compare the total length of threaded part sticking out the bottom of the baby beast tank, to the threaded part on the Hatty, one is probably longer than the other.

I have a problem with my Smok Beast RTA. Its shorting out with no coil on it.
Read about hitting the positive side of the deck build terminal to get it seated.
I have yet to get it going. I turned to one of many RTA tanks for a switch up. This one would be The Troll. This has no problems. Two .5 ohm coils for a finished .25-.28 build.

Okay, I think there has been some confusion. You have an RTA/RDA that you have coiled, and the ohms reader won't read it correctly, but it DOES read your BB tank (that has a drop in coil correctly). With that said, I'm not sure I'd trust that build since it doesn't appear that your ohm's reader has the issue if it's reading the BB (drop in coil) tank. It sounds like it isn't your 510 pin.

YOU DO NOT OWN AN UNREGULATED MOD.

With that said, you could (cautiously) try wicking and firing on the mod with the REGULATED mod you have with (slightly) more safety given that it has protections built in (Unlike an UNREGULATED, or MECH mod) which it sounds you don't have, and you don't need one either.)

I might consider starting over myself, and seeing if you can get your RTA reading on the ohms reader with a different build. With that said, if there is something horridly wrong with the build, your mod most likely won't fire it (if there are connection issues).

IF/WHEN you put that coil on your mod make SURE it is still showing resistance and then start test firing it at low wattages to see what will happen. I suppose an ohms reader could have trouble reading a particular coil, though that's really exactly what they are designed for which is why it's a little troubling yours isn't registering.

Just my 0.02, someone may be along later with much better advice, I just wanted to make sure you/I was clear about what is actually going on.

Best of luck,

Anna

Right, with that said, it's always good to know more about coilbuilding, and perhaps what he has isn't suitable for that RTA? (I mean in terms of installing the coil, not building it?) IDK, I'd watch a few more coil installation videos on that RTA, if you can find a few, to make sure you are installing your pre-wound coils correctly? Also, have you put it on the mod to read yet, or just the ohms reader? There's nothing wrong will screwing on the base and seeing what ohms it reads (if any) (if you haven't done that yet, etc.) but if it's your build, it should read as dead on your mod, also. If your installation is okay, the mod should read (approximately) the resistance of your coil that's targeted, and that should at least tell you something more. I'm not sure how far I'd trust a $4 ohms reader, though I'm fairly certain that the one in my coilbuilder kit may not have cost that much more to manufacture.

I'd have concerns about things not reading on one device and reading on another, especially if it seems as if the ohms reader is working, more-or-less, but either way, it doesn't hurt to check it on the mod, but you may find you have to re-coil it to make it work.

I originally misread it as he had a fully regulated mod that could read the coil and the reader couldn't.

What he has is a stick battery starter kit with some protection such as short circuit. Designed to work with a couple of Smok coils. It really isn't appropriate for most other tanks and coil building.

Well especially not with fixed wattage, honestly. Depending on the resistance, you may overstress your mod or fry your coil. I missed that part. Most builds are going to need more than one fixed wattage, and you may not enjoy the experience at all (if it even works) at a fixed wattage, the coil may vape way too warm.... I'm thinking that perhaps you need a regulated mod that at least allows you to change wattage? I don't think those smok mods are really designed to work well with other than the smok tanks that go with them.... With that said, it's always good to have a backup mod, and you could always get another while continuing to use the BB tank on your smokstick.

Best of luck,

Anna
