So I bought a ohm reader from fastech and when I try to screw it in it will give me the ohms but when I screw it in all the way down it just goes blank. Any tips or suggestions or links to ohm readers that are guaranteed to work?

On the one I have from FT you can't really tighten it down to much. Just enough to read it. Not real tight. That is how mine is and I have rechecked it on my other mod and it is very accurate. Good luck to ya. Sure someone will have a better suggestions for you. Then we will both learn something new. 
My local B&M screws the tanks down tight on their tasting units, destroying many batteries. Sounds like you are having the same issues, when screwed down tight, the insulator under the center pin is being crushed down so far it touches the base, and shorts out. I tell everyone I see to only tighten down enough for it to fire. A little loose is what I look for.
