Even if you don't go that route immediately, at least you'll have the supplies on hand when you (possibly inevitably) come to the conclusion that cartridges are really pretty awful and want to either drip or go to cartomizers.
Or, the OP may never come to that conclusion. There are many of us that think cartomizers taste awful, are too expensive, and are too restrictive when one wants to change flavors. Well meaning people here had me spending a ton of money on cartomizers when I first started vaping. IMHO, cartomizers have an off putting flavor. It's no one's fault, really. More, it's just different strokes for different folks. To automatically tell new vapers that they will hate cartridges plus atomizers does the new vaper a disservice. IMHO. YMMV.
I exclusively use cartridges plus an atomizer. For my tastes, a cartridge allows me to use clean filler every day (whereas a cartomizer can not be taken apart to be cleaned.)
I have been using cartridges for months by cleaning and inserting clean filler in them daily. My total bill for cartridges and filler for the last 6 months is less than $10. I have spent an additional $20 on atomizers. I doubt a cartomizer user could make the same $$$ claim for 6 months of daily usage.
OP, you probably need to try both to see which set up you prefer. If you just purchase one cartomizer and one atomizer plus cartridge to use on the top of whatever battery you select, you'll know almost right away which set up is the right one for you.
For me, I like being able to start with a fully clean fresh filler in my cartridges every day. For me, the flavors are more pure, the equipment more sanitary, and the vape more pleasant when using a 3 piece set up. (Battery, atomizer, plus cartridge.)
Best of luck!
