Really, don't panic, but it's good that you are now aware of what can happen. Just because it can doesn't mean it will! Simple precautions, and having a plan for how you'd deal with it if it did happen, can make it reasonably safe. Just don't get blasé about it, same as you shouldn't with driving.

I charge mine in the kitchen, where there's less that can burn easily, there's an extractor fan (the fumes are nasty), and one of those fire towels handy... just in case!

True.. I know it's probably nothing major to worry about now I know the risks. I do actually watch my batteries and I've never left anything on charge for long. I usually wait till the lil light goes green and take it off.

It's never got hot or anything, and tbf with my busy life I never even have a good 3 hours to sit and charge my cig anyway, it's usually 45 minutes here and there. None have died on me yet, and they've never been left on for longer than an hour or so.

I had a bad experience with a firework as a kid, this is probably why this has freaked me out so much. A rocket firework shot under a bench I was sitting on, in my own little world eating a toffee apple I did even notice! my dad had quick reactions and literally grabbed me and flung me into a big wood pile and I broke my arm.... Could've been worse. Now every time I hear a fire engine I freak!! 12 years later!

Ouch! Hope that didn't make you go jittery at the sight of a toffee apple!

Yeah, checking they're not too hot a couple of minutes into charging has become part of my routine, it's a good precaution. I quite often end up running them right down, and then fully charging them, so if one started taking a long time to charge I'd notice and (probably) ditch it fairly soon after. For egos I just use the 650mah, partly because they don't take very long to charge.

Now you mention it I don't think I've went near one since!

Yeah that's the best way! Also when one gets hot in my mouth after vaping I set it down to cool and pick up another, it's bound to get warm since the liquid is heating up to vape but it freaks me out hahah

Do you use a good branded ego?

I've got a bunch of Innokin batts, but I wouldn't recommend them - sometimes they act like the button's stuck and fire until the 10-second cutout! Maybe only once every couple of charges or something like that, but it's annoying. And a couple of Kangers from an EVOD start kit which work fine (but I don't like the flush button, and there's no battery level indication). So I'm kind of on the lookout myself - the Joye ones would fit the bill, but they do seem pretty over-priced in the UK.

Ive let mine charge over night before and didn't see a problem. But I do believe they are like charging a phone to maximize battery life and performance: you don't want to leave it plugged in at 100%, and you want to let the charge almost run out before you charge it. I may be wrong but i don't think it would hurt!

A partial discharge reduces stress and prolongs battery life. See Table 2...

I am also a newbie to vaping, but batteries, especially Lithium Ion ones, are one of those things I am always quite cautious about. The reputation of the company producing the product/battery usually gives you a good idea of how safe it would be.

The only time I have ever charged a battery overnight is when I bought a brand new ego ce4 kit, and in trying to charge it for 8 hours forgot to turn it off before I went to bed, and I had a mini-panic attack when I remembered that I left a battery charging overnight. I may be over reacting, probably because I have seen lithium ions explode in my place of work.

With ego type batteries especially, you probably won't know where it was made and how the QC is, the charger output may also be higher than it should be. On top of that, because it is something you would use all the time, you might get some moisture on the connections from either e-juice, wet hands, etc. This applies to all sorts of batteries, but I wouldn't use my laptop in the loo, or leave it on a table beside my beer =). I can already see how some might start to villianize e-cigs because of a few indidents!

I usually only charge my batteries in the car because I know I would be there if something happened, and if I have been using it a lot and it starts to get hot I would put it right in front of the a/c vents to cool it (I live in a very hot and very humid climate). BTW, rule of thumb, if any battery gets too hot to touch, you don't want to be near it, nor should it be near the power strip that you are probably charging it on... or your laptop which probably has a much larger li-on battery. =D
