Ok, thanks to all the great responses in my first thread, we returned a crappy South Beach ecig and got an Ego. What a difference in vapor quantity and throat hit! Thanks again everyone.

But I'm confused on a couple of things. The cartridges appear to have a jelly substance. I'm assuming this is the nicotine element. Not exactly juice. The directions say to 'drip 2 or 3 drops of liquid into the atomizer for a better feeling'.

1) So, is the 2 or 3 drops the ejuice the directions refer to? And why would I need liquid, or juice, if I'm using a cartridge with a petroleum jelly like substance in it?

2) Can I use the atomizer with drips of juice (don't have at this point) with an empty cartridge?

3) What does it mean when someone says that around 7 puffs equal 1 analog? Is an analog an entire real cigarette, or one good puff from a real cigarette?

Thanks I know you'll all have me straight here soon.

This thing is great! I think it might work for my wife. Nothing else has helped for her so far.

Glad your here!! This will change your life..have 2 egos and love them. Checkout the you tube vids too

So the atomizer vapes with a completely empty cartridge, but can be damaged if this is done. It requires a wet foam resistance even though the nicotine is clinging to the already created vapor? Once the vapor leaves the atomizer and goes into the foam, the atomizer is done. So that means there is a backwash into the atomizer that is beneficial for it.

So dripping juice, into the foam in the cartridge, or into the atomizer? Good practice to keep the inside of the atomizer moist?

Edit: This depends on whether the air that is atomized is coming into the atty from the front or the back. Or maybe it circulates a few times. Safe to just keep it moist I suppose.

The vapor is created by juice in the bowl being heated by the atomizer coil, which is also inside the bowl. You can't see the bowl or the coil because they are covered by the bridge (the mesh arch you see when you look into the atty). The juice flows from the filler material in the cartridge to the bridge. The bridge is interwoven with strands of the wicking material. The wicking material is a bundle of heat-proof fibers that the heating coil is wound around. The juice is fed by capillary action as needed by the coil.

If you look at the cartridge where the filler is, you would think that you draw through the filler. Actually, the mouthpiece and the filler material are not connected. You draw air beside the part of the cart that holds the filler. If you look closely, you will see a hole on each side of the cart about halfway up. This is where you draw vapor from the atomizer. It's easy to see if you blow through the mouthpiece of an empty cart and feel where the air comes out.

This is a step by step pictorial of an atomizer taken apart and rebuilt.

With your wife only smoking 10 analogs a day, she may prefer some flavors instead of the tobacco flavors...

The two most regarded sites for juice are :
FreedomSmokeUSA and Backwoods Brew

As far as getting a taste like tobacco, that gets to be a hotly debated subject, lol.

From everything I have tried, thus far, the Cappucino from FSUSA has given me more TH than anything...but I have only tried maybe 8 different flavors and 3 different brands..

If I may .... in.... The atomizer needs to be wet with juice when you press the button or it may eventually burnout. More likely, it will just taste bad. You can drip juice into the atomizer and vape it directly using an empty cartridge. That means really empty... no "cotton" or anything. There are other options for the future called a "drip tip" but thats TMI right now. Usually atomizers come with a dummy/empty cartridge in them to protect them. You can use that if it is the same as the cartridge. If you look at a 510 cartridge closely, you'll see that the "cotton" sits inside of a little chamber. The airflow is up the outside of that chamber along the flat edges of the cartridge. See the holes at the top of the flat sides.. that's where the vapor flows and up into the mouthpiece. So the juice migrates down and touches the top of the attomizer bridge, onto a heating element. It Heats up and flows up the flat sides of the cartridge and into the mouthpiece and out the hole into your mouth.
That's how it works.

The wet "foam" or "cotton" or wicking material... is just to hold the juice and keep it flowing to the atomizer.

If you direct drip... you don't need the cotton. But it means that you have to drip about 3 drops every 3-4 puffs depending on length of hit. I don't direct drip unless I'm just trying a juice to see what it tastes like. That's me. Some people direct drip all the time. I can't seem to get the hang of it. I flood attys' and it drips down the side of the battery. Kinda messy. So I mostly use cartomizers or attys & cartridge.

Figured a few of the dots needed to be connected... hope it helps.

edit... sorry for the repeat information. I didn't see DaveP's post. ooops.
