There is a mod I am in love with, and for the first time in my vapelife I am tempted to get it... I am not exactly a newb when it comes to vape stuff, but mods still sort of allude me. I get the regulated mod idea, but a mech ... I've seen them with tanks and stuff, so I'm assuming that you can still use 'common' coils that could be used on any other type of device, but then I fight with myself thinking there's no way you could put say a 1.8 ohm (or higher) coil on a mod. There would be too much power wouldn't there? Am I just totally missing the point or are mech mods only for those who want to sub-ohm?

The power is only going to change with your coils resistance. So a 1.8 ohm coil on a mech with a fully charged battery will only push 9ish watts. And that's it. No up, no down. The power will only increase as you build lower resistance coils. Thus the appeal of a regulate mod. Hope this helps, I'm sure others have a more eloquent way of putting it.

Mech mods aren't specifically for sub-ohming. They work well with Kanger clearos with 1.3-2.0 ohm coils. The battery will only put out 3.7-4.2 volts depending on how charged it is. The wattage is determined by the resistance of the coil. They're really versatile and simple devices. Would definitely recommend you try one out.

Try out a dripper or an RBA and work on building your own coils. Once you start building, you'll be blown away.

Thanks!! I appreciate the answers. I am going to try it.

I HAVE begun my coil building journey and am definitely hooked on it. Have even rebuilt my smoktech clearos several times successfully thanks to the boobtube videos on doing that. I just don't think I'm ready to think about subbing just yet. I'm thrilled with my new progress into the hobby.

Now though, thanks to this information I can feel comfortable going ahead and getting that pretty powerhouse I was looking at. :)
