Hello, Its been a long time since I have been here but had a few questions. When I was bigger into vaping i purchased somewhere along the lines of 10 atomizers and about 5 of them have been sitting for about a year still in the packaging with no use. I had quit vaping all together for about 4 months but am now slowly starting to return to it. I opened a new atomizer and for the life of me can not get it to work right. Could it be that I just forgot what I am doing or do they tend to have a shelf life?

I use a Joye 510 and drip into it. I was thinking i should remove all of the wick from the atomizer. Could this help? Is it possible that the wick has somehow fallen further in providing a constant burning flavor after a few puffs after a drip?

Before I would notice that it would take a few days to get the atomizer to "fighting strength" i guess you could say but this process does not seem to be happening at all now.

Thank you for all of your help!

They seem(atomizers) to have a shelf life.A barren pit never feels right once it goes dry.I have the same issue with old attys now and chaulk it up to, wanted a safe haven for my stuff and it rotted.Still use juice from a year back but the attys seem to not preform.could be me but for a couple bucks buy new.hope it helps.

Might just have to bite the bullet then, Good to hear about the juice though I just bought about a liter, Figure if I'm starting again might as well have enough for a while haha. I will spend another couple days on this atty and then bite the bullet. Just wish I would have known before I made my bulk order, bought new batteries, charger and juice. Of course my assumption that attys would last would turn out wrong. Kinda renders the rest useless - oh well.

you didn't say what type of pv you are using...?
If it's Joye510 "reg", i've heard the resistance can vary... i usually make sure they are 2.2 Ohm ... anymore than 2.5 can make it hard to produce vapor on a 3.7 pv.
If you have a multimeter you can check resistance and/or look for signs of life...

By all means do more than I did. some are hit or miss some just never work.My thought is do not bunker stuff its just makes a packrat.Know its a concern but really we can get our product when we need it pretty quick.

That's funny, speaking of old atomizers.....

My very very first ever e-cig I bought in Dec 09 was called a 'SmartSmoker' basically a generic Super-Mini RN-4081 like the SmokeAnywhere, etc. brands. I only used it for a few months and then packed it away for other models like the 510 and 901. But recently my 901 atty's have been weak so I scrounged through my drawer for old e-cig hardware and found this old e-cig kit still laying there. I took it out, added some juice and gave it a try. WOW. Huge throat hit, which I didn't recall ever getting from this model.

Now I'm an old Super-Mini fan again... have just ordered some new RN-4081 hardware.
Plus the batteries last a bit longer than both the 901 and 510, but especially the 510.

Still love the 901... have been able to restore some testy atty's by rinsing them, drying them out and adding new juice.

Interesting question. Hadn't given it any thought.

I know that old oils polymerize... like artist's oil paint. Gasoline goes bad and turns to "varnish" over time (ever find a really old small engine that had gas left in it sitting in the back of your late Grandpa's garage, for example?). IDK what that primer is, but who knows? I suppose it would vary depending on what a particular manufacturer uses for primer. What does VG do over time?

Also, if there is no primer, what about oxidation/rust/corrosion?

the primer is pg or vg and any residual oils from manufacturer. (there is a FAQ somewhere in this forum that explains it.)

for whatever reason many manufacturers wet the wicks before shipping. the juice would evaporate so i would suggest an vodka soak followed by a pg/vg or juice soak. blow clean and try then. It may be that extended dry time would harm the wick but that doesn't seem to likely. more likely the primer evaporated and gunk remained. that's why i suggest alcohol/vodka soak, v rinse (most folks use water)

there is also the old dry burn method--never worked well for me or the "wet burn" running the atomizer hot while dripping lots of unflavored 0 nic juice.

That's what I was thinking. I know when I clean mine and leave them sit, I have to flood them and blow them out to get everything rewetted before they work right.

after struggling with this for a while I think I found a solution although I am not quite sure why it worked. It was my first time getting back into vaping and also my first time with DIY e-liquid. I suppose I should have considered other possible variables but it did not cross my mind. Anyway, I had used just PG + nic + flavoring. This morning I added about 1 ML of water to a 15 ML of what I had made up. This seems to have fixed my problems with the atomizers (well about the 4th one I have gone through wondering what was wrong), would it have been to thick before preventing them from working? It seemed as "thin" as liquids I have bought in the past but I suppose time can change my memories. Sorry for raising false alarms about atomizers.

I wouldn't wash them at all with water or vodka or anything there brand new Atty's,,,,, water or vodka would not be a best friend to these new Atty's, just re-prime them with some PG and they should be fine.

You must also put a meter on them to see whats what. Some can be DOA
