Ok. So I read all of the threads that have "dripping" in the title, and just about everything else on dripping. Plus I watched a ton of videos.

The answer I was looking for went un-noticed while browsing all the information I could find. So here is it.

Atomizer Life-span While Dripping?
How long can I expect my 901 atomizers to last with regular upkeep (draining, swabbing, etc) if I do direct drops onto the actual wick? Using it moderately, smoking like a regular cigarette's worth every few hours or so.

In all of your opinions, what's the absolute "better" between dripping and using carts, e-cig model specific. I.e. "the 901 is better for dripping than carts, whereas the 401 is better for carts than dripping..."

One day I pulled my cart off to drip a couple drops into the cart, and the white batting or whatever you want to call it was in the atomizer. I left it there and put 3 drops on it instead of in the cart. I've found this works great. You can see if it looks dry or not. I drip on it all day long. then once a week I'll take some tweezers and pull it out rinse under hot water and let it sit and dry out. Stuff it back into the atomizer not the cart, and put about six drops onto the dry batting. I go through about 1.5 to 2 ml a day of my mix. I do equal parts 36mg no flavor PG, VG, and strait PG with lorann flavoring to taste. Its kind of thick, but vapes realy good.

You know what that's very interesting because that has happend to me as well, where the filler material will stick to the atomizer. I've noticed that when my hits are getting weak, I can take out the filler and flip it over and then sort of stuff it half-way into the cartridge and half-way into the atomizer. Doing that produces some great hits.

I wonder if you could take the filler material and cut, and form it into a ring to fit it around the wick of the atomizer and then drip onto that... That might produce a nice mix of soaked filler / drip hits.

Has anyone ever tried using Rayon as a filler material? You know the stuff that "ShamWow" is made out of... I wonder if a nice little bit of that stuff wrapped around the atomizer wick would work, and last longer?

I don't think the shamwow stuff will work. It's designed to "hold" liquid. It will not release it unless you apply pressure to it, like squeezing it out. It's worth a try though.

I have tried filter material from a roll your owne cig. it did not work that great. You think the stuff that comes with the cart taste bad when you get it hot, that stuff was the worst.

It's hard to attribute atomizer lifespan to any single factor like that. Poor-to-nonexistent QA on the part of the original Chinese manufacturer means highly variable durability. I use a Kissbox with a manual switch, and have been dripping exclusively (and damn near constantly, thanks to the USB passthrough, and a handy APC battery pack :thumb: ) since the second day of ownership back in early November 08. I've had one lucky atomizer that's still kicking and has kept up with me through nearly the entire time, and several backups/alternates die out on me in as little as a week, or anywhere in between.

Since the KB has been my only model thus far, I don't know how carts are on others like the 901 etc, but I can DEFINITELY say that I prefer dripping on pen styles. The Carts seem like they're just too long so the fluid seems just stuck in the top after the bottom has gone dry; and it seems to run hot, so it picks up burnt cart flavor pretty fast.

Happy vapin' to ye. :)

Hello to All and especially Jane who invited me to join! I was reading the posts on atomizer life. I have been in the field of electronics, photocopiers to be exact for 25 years. I had read a post (I don't remember who's, please forgive me) that mentioned the reason that atomizers die is that the small connection in the center spins and breaks the small wire connection inside. While I believe that an atomizer can burn out in other ways, I think this may be the most common one. I think it affects "drippers" more because the excess fluid runs down into the connection and becomes sticky. Then when you turn the battery off to replace it, the atty connection spins (due to the sticky dried fluid) and turns the connection breaking the wire. This may also be a reason that some fluids seem to kill atomizers. It could be due to slightly more sugar in the flavoring or possibly some other material which tends to gum up and stick these pieces together. I hope I'm not leading us down the wrong path, however it seems to make sense to me. Anyway I'm fairly new to "vaping" but my enthusiasm for it is un-stoppable. Thanks to all for the good words and Happy Vaping!

I like to switch up my flavors often, at first I would have a few different carts with filling each filled with different liquid. This was far too much of a hassle, and the filling was always getting stuck inside the metal wick. It leaves such a strange taste. So I've been dripping, no filler, for about a month now. It's wonderful! I have a 510 atomizer that I don't do anything to clean, and it still works like new after 3 weeks! Now that I have my prodigy and an 801 atomizer, the 801 mesh can hold about 5 drops of liquid lasting me about a cigarettes worth of puffs! I'm never going back to filling. Dripping makes everything easier!
