Every night I listen to an old-time radio site on my computer to put me to sleep. Jack Benny, Gunsmoke, Suspense, etc. I know those are all before your time, youngsters, but it's better than tv because it's dark and your eyes are closed, so sleep comes easy.

Anywho, there are loads of old cigarette ads. How yummy, how cool, how HEALTHY they made their particular brand sound!
When you try to think back to how you ever got into that habit-was it peer pressure, nerves, did your parents smoke?
I listen to those blatant lies and clever jingles and know I was a prime target, reel her in, boys.

Shame on them. Death and Misery done cute.

So be proud you discovered vaping without a national campaign, you found this forum, you're learning more everyday--You Win! :p

I'm an OTR fan, and do some collecting. Yep, it's interesting to hear some of the commercials for products that are no longer advertised, and probably no longer available. A lot of the shows have had the ads edited out. My preferences run to action, adventure, science fiction, suspense, and horror. I do, sometimes, listen to comedy, westerns, or a music show.

Where do you go for your otr? I've always liked zootradio but its been a while. What's your favorite show? I've always liked suspense, the Whisperer, x minus one, the shadow, well a bunch I guess. Btw I'm one of those youngsters with which you speak.

I too listen to OTR on Live365 a lot and hear ads for brands like Chesterfield and Fatima (the quality cigarette )... makes me want to try one to see how much better a quality cigarette tastes. And a "capable medical specialist" (?) found "no significant harm" to nose, throat, and other organs after 6 months use.... Dragnet was totally sponsored by cigs it seems. :) Thanks for posting!

Otrfan.com-Click Stream and it's non-stop. Sad how many known actors did "personal" endorsements and we now know died of lung cancer.

I don't remember which western it was but one series starred jimmy Stewart but after the first season he dropped out because they advertised cigarettes.

I have to admit that while I like old-time radio shows, I was amused to see this cigarette ad on the back of an old Saturday Evening Post recently. It was leaning up against something to prop it up so people could look at the cover, but it should still be visible in this quickly-snapped picture:

winston.jpg

The left bubble says, "Winston tastes good!" The right, "Like a cigarette should!"

... yeeeah, they're a little off there, aren't they. :)
