I recently obtained GG #601... it's obviously been around a while and has the shallower engraving on it.
I've noticed that the engraving is clean -- there's no black down in there to make it stand out like there is on my newer ones. I haven't really seen any from around that time close up, so I don't know if this is normal or if the carbon (if it's carbon in those engravings) may have been cleaned out by a previous owner.
So, two questions:
1. Should those engravings be filled like the newer ones?
2. If so, is there a way I can refill them?
I basically just want to get this thing looking as close to showroom-new as I can. If it's normal for those engravings to be clean like that, I'm fine with it... it's a beautiful piece of work the way it is right now.
