I've had the Omega for just over 5 months now. In that time I would have to say that it accounts for 80% or more of my dead atties.

I direct drip on it and have used everything from Joye SR and LR, Cisco 1.5 LR and IKV 2.0's on it.

Does anyone else see the same behaviour on their's and what have you done about it?

I also use eGo's and the Reo Grand, but my eGo's have probably killed 1 or perhaps 2 atties in that time while the Reo has claimed zero kills in the 2 months I've had it. The Omega in contrast has easily claimed over 10 - 15 kills.

Anything I can check or do from my end to bring the kill rate down? I love the device but it's costing me an arm and a leg to run it.

Please help.

I would suspect that the atty connector may need a good cleaning with a q-tip. There could be juice building up and cause a spike in current. It is possible that you drip on a hot coil and kill it as well. I have killed so many cartos in that way. Did not realize how hot the coil was. Take a draw and nothing! I always keep a 5 pack in my truck :)

Wow.. amazing suggestions, and both very very likely. I do keep the atties fairly wet, almost to the point of where I've sometimes got leaking at the connector. I find if I don't do that, the attys almost seems to burn dry or perhaps, I'm just scared of frying them. Your second suggestion is also likely because I do tend to chain-vape while I am at the computer or watching TV etc.

Hmm.. suggestion one is an easy fix. What to do about suggestion two? How do I avoid dripping on a hot coil?

Thanks for the suggestions cddz.

LOL when I figure that one out I will let you know :p
I still do it, sometimes I have to tell myself to wait 20 seconds.....

So, I counted my dead atties, that have been sitting in a little cup in my vape cabinet. 29 attys!!!

I gave up and sent a plea for help to the Canadian vendor that I purchased the Omega from. Hopefully they can find a solution to my issue. The last straw was my second IKV 2.0 in the last 24 hours.

There has to be something wonky going on.

I really don't want to stop using the Omega, but cannot go on like this.

One other question. Are you using the LR atties on the REO and EGO, or are they standard resistance?

LR's too. I even tried using SR's on the Omega, thinking the 3.7 may be too much, with the same results.

Ahhh.. I love this device. I miss using it while cleaning it.

Cleaned, dried, noalox-ed and back in vaping Nirvana.

I have to congratulate you on a damn well put together mod. Sorry, I did not know I was chatting with the actual man responsible for the Omega. You must be Chad, then. :)

What's partially frustrating is that I'll meet a couple other guys from the local vaping scene, and they proceed to tell me how their attys last for weeks if not months. I want to strangle them sometimes. LOL.

You and me both. Rob will get this kind of life from atties, even at the not recommended battery setup :p

I just wanted to add my experience, as it may be pertinent...

I was having intermittent misfiring with my Omega over the last couple weeks. I didn't know if it was the atty, the batts, or the connector post. It was a 6-month-old atty that sat mostly unused until a few weeks ago when I discovered HV vaping (I know, Chad...I know ;)). There didn't seem to be any rhyme or reason as to when it would misfire, but often a shake or a bump of the Omega would clear it up for a while.

Finally this morning I opened up the head unit and discovered that the top of the post and bottom of the atty connector had a bit of juice on them. This might be disconcerting, but since I haven't cleaned this thing since buying it in December, I'd consider this standard preventative maintenance stuff. A quick wipe of the post and a twist with a napkin against the atty connector was all it took. I put it back together and it's running just like new again.

:toast:

Cleaning the bottom of the atty, and the inside of the connector cup is indeed standard maintenance and something that I do almost every 2 days or so. I've had only one case of intermittent firing, and that was after my first cleaning of the Omega, where I had forgotten to put noalox at the bottom of the firing pin. A little dab of Noalox and all was well again. :)

My problem seems to be somewhat related to this thread so I'll post here instead of starting a new thread. I have an SB that I bought new a few months ago. Recently I got an Omega in a trade. It hasn't been abused and looks like new. The problem is that it just doesn't hit as hard as the SB. Moving the same battery and atty between the two, there is a noticable difference in vapor production and TH. I've cleaned all the contacts and put Noalox on the threads. It still fires every time, but I'm used to the SB and its hard hitting vapor. I've been meaning to get down to New Philly again and was going to bring it in to see what the problem is, but I rarely go that far south.

So, my questions are does it need to be taken apart and cleaned? Or, is this just normal for an Omega? Any advice is appreciated.

While I no longer have an Omega, I would like to throw my two cents in if allowed. I have a bunch of PV's both fixed and VV.

First of all, Ego's do not run anywhere near as "hot" as a standard mechanical device using a LiIon battery. A freshly charged battery will deliver up to 4.2 v whereas an Ego is only 3.2 v.

The other thing is that some Ego's have a cutoff, meaning that the unit will shut off after some time-normally 10 seconds. There are a lot of Ego knockoff's out there so it is hard to predict the cut off time.

Add the higher voltage with the longer time you MIGHT (heavy emphasis on the might) depress the button, and you could be running the atty hotter which will give it a shorter lifetime.

Also, are the AWR's not high drain? These tend to hit harder than a regular LiIon battery.

The Omega is a fine unit, but I had to downsize so I could get some VV stuff. Curious to see how this works out for you.
