I had reasonable success quiting smoking with chantix, started right before a weeklong skiing trip to CO. after returning I had the usual sensation of taste and smell returning but in retrospect, I was quite focused on the whole quitting part and dealing with the side effect of chantix. I was analog free for months until a trip to keywest. four days on continuous alcohol abuse made me relapse and I could never go back on chantix, the nausea was unbearable. it works better than any NRT but the side effects are killer.
anyway...
three days into vaping for $ reasons, where quiting analogs is really just a side effect and hardly the goal, I am overwhelmed by the stench of the world around me.
I just grabbed a stale analog out of my car just to overcome and drown out the smells.....that the analog was disgusting at any standard being beside the point but how does anyone deal with living in real urban areas not just this semi urban spread we call Tampa.
I could not imagine getting into a subway or driving through a real towndown.

Well smoking after ?? years i still had a good since of taste and smell. The last airplane was before I quit and I could hardly standed the trip. Even now I would rather be on a airplane full of smokers than what I experince then. I guess now I will throw up all the way there and back.

They kick the smokers off and closed the outside air vents to SAVE MONEY. Airplanes are now stinky germ/virus traps.

All I can say is LOL, MrTorBen

My smell has returned and things are really smelling so bad that have nothing to do with smoking. I went to Shack for their great hamburgers. I came home smelling so bad from their grease stuff in my hair, on my clothes. My house is smelling better except for strench from cat litterbox, my dogs' farts. But then I clean litterboxes regularly. I still smell something bad from outside of my townhouse...like sewer stuff!

I went outside walking one of my dogs. There was a man smoking outside with his dog. That smell ... was nice and rich!

Nope, I cannot go back to smoking because when I stopped and changed over to vaping, my snistis problem went away, coughing went away, snoring even went away! I breathe better. I am so thankful to e-cigs.

But I do have a problem... sitting outside on the deck. bugs wouldn't bother me smoking, but they are really bothering me vaping! Sux!

I tended to notice an unnatural amplification of smells, even before I totally quit...

I wrote it off as, "My brain remembering what the odors belonged to.", and attributed it to the wet-nose of a dog, syndrome... (Like when you sit in the toilet for half an hour, you don't realize how bad you stink... then someone walks by, and drops unconscious. However, walk away for a minute... come back, and you join them on the floor.)

Once my brain settled down, smells became noticeable, but not overpowering, like before. Essentially, the longer you stay on the can, the less time you will spend on the floor.

Wait... Soon your brain will begin to flash-back to when you were a kid... Now that you actually trigger those memories associated with the first time you smelled things.

While researching for the letter I wrote to the Senate Health committee I saw that the chantix has caused users to committ suicide and in fact there are warnings that family members should watch you for signs of suicidal depression. I can't remember that being on my warning list when I took it but now I am glad that it made me so nauseous I couldn't get past the 1st week of taking it.
But I hear you on the smell. I quit smoking a few years ago and was clean for 1 year. (my downfall was hanging out with smokers and alcohol played a part as well) During the initial quitting period I was amazed how attuned I was to the smell of tobacco. We would be driving in the car and I would smell it and sure enough 3 cars ahead of us someone would be blowing smoke out their window. I can't say it made me want a cigarette but it was a constant reminder of what I had given up. This time with the e-cig I just pull it out and take a vap while being grateful I am not the one stinking up the enviroment.

Actually, aircraft pressurization has not been changed. There's no real way to save money in that area. Air intake is through the engines, and is too hot to survive. The AC cools the air for consumption. They could shut down the AC to save money, but some passengers wouldn't survive the flight.

But you're right - they are stinky germ/virus traps.

glad some got an lol out of my obviously poor attempt at some humor :)

of course I appreciate that I can smell the jasmine blooming, etc.

I always thought the reason of the recycled air on a plane was that it is way too cold at crusing altitudes and it costs fuel to heat up the freezing air???

Personally I am missing analogs in the respect that the world DOES stink. Worse than analogs did overall.

The doors in this crap apartment do not seal and everything everyone cooks stinks up the hall and comes right on in. Smells like a 3rd world slum at dinnertime. Which isn't helped by the fire doors that allow for no circulation (there are still places in the building where you can smell residue from the fire 4-5-6 months ago now).

The reek from the industrial park across the way is stark too as well as the exhaust fumes from reasonably major roadways when the wind is from the right direction (and as they are placed, ANY wind does the job).

IMO, as much as like vaping, there are worse things than analogs to smell...
