Ok, I started vaping roughly three weeks ago and it's been surprisingly awesome (I was very skeptical). I went with the Safe Cig Micro as my original investment, which gets no love on this forum, but I'm honestly a fan for using it at bars (I'm young and like to kill my liver and lungs) because it looks/works like an analog. But the price/availability of the refills is forcing me to move towards a not so incognito setup to use in private/work and I need advice.

I'm looking at the KGO starter kit, roughly $60 shipped on various sites. Would this be a solid purchase and if not, please help me out with suggestions? Also, I find the thought of clearomizers extremely appealing. Which do you use on your KGO and what is your opinion?

I promise I have been stalking various posts with similar questions, but sometimes people get to technical and I get lost (ohms/various voltages/mods/etc.). I'm looking for a dumbed down response for someone new to the game and is currently being forced to buy another kit after less than a month of vaping. Also, I'm a menthol smoker, if that matters?

Thanks in advance!

Austiiin

I got my wife & son a KGO after they complained about battery life with their mini batts.
They love them and now their mini's are boxed up. The KGO is 3.7 volts and I purchased them at Hoosierecig.
My first PV was a lavatube and I prefer VV, but I also have a KGO set for backup.

As for cartomizers, I prefer clearomizers, especially the CE2 edition 4-6 & newer CE3 types. I would suggest starting with the LR ego types HERE.
My wife & son love them as the are easy to fill.

There is also the new EGO-C Twist that is a little longer and it is a VV batt. if you ever decide to get into that arena.

Welcome Austiiin! The KGO will be recommended by many as a step up. I have some that I still use regularly and really like them, can't go wrong with them IMO. I suggest Dark City Vapor as that one already comes with some Boge LR cartos, which you will want anyway! You will also have the option to add a box of 1.7ohm cartos for $4! I use LR Boge cartos, the 1.7 cartos with or without a tank as well as the stardust (AKA vision ego clearomizer CE4+) on mine. Hope that helps!

Okay, I'm the guy who's been in your shoes. I'm a 2+pack a day smoker who started vaping V2 3 weeks ago. I went back and forth between the KGo and the E-power. They're both regulated 3.7v, which means they fire consistently at 3.7, they both have roughly same battery life. The difference? The E-power isn't a self-contained unit like the Kgo. This means that when the battery dies on the E-power, I take it out and replace it for around $4, as opposed to the $20 or so to replace the Kgo unit. Same with the switch; $10 to replace as opposed to replacing the unit.
I ordered my E-power kit at Crystal Clear Vaping for $57 or so. It comes with 2 14650 batteries, 2 atomizers (useful for dripping), 5 prefilled carts, a 5-pack of blank Resurrectors (LR 1.7ohm cartos) as well as a 30ml bottle of juice. I've heard lots of bad things about clearomizers, so I'm planning on sticking with the Resurrectors and 2.0 LR Boges. As far as explaining volts, ohms, etc., as far as I can tell, in layman's terms, volts is how much power the battery puts out, ohms is how much juice the device uses. The lower the ohms in comparison to the battery, the harder the battery has to work, which also means the hotter the carto gets. This is why some cartos are called low resistance. A hotter carto puts out more vapor than a cooler one. Oh, and a dual coil means just that; the carto has 2 coils, so you effectively double the ohms. Thus a 1.5 ohm dual coil fires at 3.0 ohms. With a 3.7 regulated system, like the Kgo and E-power, you don't want to go below 1.7 ohms, cause you'll likely fry the carto. Somewhere on this site is a table showing the sweet spots for various voltages.
Hope this helps.

The only things I would add:

- Dark City sells the KGO in a kit with cartomizers, while Hoosier insists on selling it with useless cartridges that you'll probably throw away (not a really big deal, but I can't understand why someone still sells a kit with atty-carts in 2012.. I call this newbie unfriendliness)

- KGO might be voltage regulated, but it vapes above 3.7 V for a good part of the charge (which is good), and the vape strength only drops off just immediately before it stops firing (which again is good)

- E-Power is an overall better value because of the swappable batteries and replaceable parts, but some people are reporting problems with the switch

- E-Power has proprietary outside ("cone") threads that will not fit accessories built for eGo (not a huge problem, if you must use Stardusts, for instance, you can get an adapter or extender for $2)

I was using safecig. Flavors are good but prices are ridiculous. I chose the Volt and could not be happier. I think you would be too if you liked the safecig and want something that looks like a cig which for me is important in social scenes. Kgo, egos, etc look like a (MODERATED) IMO waiting for hater replies on that comment, lol.

Hey Austiiin!

Graduated from a mini to a KGO myself not long ago.
I found it amazing how much better my juices taste vaping at a higher wattage with my KGO.
Another difference between the KGO and e-power is that the KGO batteries are slimmer.
I wear mine on a lanyard and most people think it is a pen.

The only clearomizers I have tried were for my mini e-cig and were an epic FAIL for me.
Besides that the Smoktech 1.7 ohm XL's (Resurrectors) hold twice as much juice as a regular cartomizer, so I haven't seen the need to try that again.

Your choice of cartomizer/atomizer should work about the same with a KGO or e-power.
My fave of the 3 cartos I have tried are the resurrectors. (by a mile!)

Also, with Smokeless Image you have the option of using both mini's and a "fat batt" with both longer life and a quasi-passthrough option. The accessories can be shared between both for an added plus. Finally, Smokeless Image have a high reputation for both product and service quality.

ETA: Just to be clear, Volt = Smokeless Image

But then it would look like something bad and you could be thrown in jail. I'm not sure if that is a good idea. Plus the regular volt batteries, based on some posts I've seen from new vapors, last 10 - 15 hours on a charge, so why would anyone need to spend the $30 for one of those big batteries that make them look like they are doing something illegal.

I think we've gotten off topic a bit though. Personally, I don't think the Volts have enough nicotine nor power to get him completely off analogs. I'm like him; 2+pk a day. My V2 just doesn't cut it (my E-power's arriving tomorrow, btw. Can't wait!!!). Either the Kgo or the E-power probably would be completely acceptable to get him over the hump, as it were.

I also started with Safecig, and then I bought a KGO and am very happy with it. I now also have the Provari V2 which is awesome. But I still use the KGO when I go out because I don't want to take my Provari out of the house (afraid of dropping it). I use the Vision eGo CE4+ Clearomizer DV Edition (newest ones) that I get from Discount Vapers. I got my KGO from Virgin Vapors for around $40. Virgin Vapors also has the best juice IMO.

10-15hrs on a slim batt? My wife & son were barely getting 2-3hrs
Then they had to wait for the other batt to charge as it took 3-6hrs :(

He was kidding. There's a trend among some new-ish vapers around here to vehemently argue that slim batteries last beyond what the limits of current physics and chemistry would normally allow. It's frustrating, because if you contradict them, you are labelled as aggressive and politically incorrect.

That's hand-in-hand with dumb comments that PVs supposedly look like illegal paraphernalia.

KGO? So-so..... If you want to stop wasting money and not have to upgrade again why not just start off where you will end up anyway......Variable Voltage is where its at, might as well get a good one...A Provari..... Then you will know what vaping is really all about...
