Ya know...I'm seeing some new peeps here who are looking into moving to an e-cig and are expressing concerns that vaping might not help them quit analogs. I have some info that might help them make the move and really try to kick the analog ball-n-chain. These are several major reasons I've observed that support a move to vaping...though there may be more you can think of.

Pros:
1. Health - This is a no-brainer. Everyone knows that analogs can (and in most cases do) kill you...eventually. Even if they don't, they can seriously hamper your health. I know. My dear mother smoked for many years and suffers from emphysema now. It's not totally disabling her but it does to a great deal. There is way too much data out there that overwhelmingly supports the health benefits that e-cigs offer over analogs. Too many to be listed here but many are simply obvious...even to the somewhat uninformed. Furthermore, second-hand smoke from analogs can negatively affect the health of those around you. Analogs have over 4000 chemical agents, 43 carcinogens, and around 400 other toxins. Once again, this is a no-brainer. vaping has NONE...only nicotine. In addition, many previous smokers have reported that after vaping for awhile...their ability to taste improved, they do not cough any more, they sleep better, and in general...they FEEL better. This is definitely a plus in my book but its not as easy to really understand until you actually experience it...and vaping helps you to do this in a big way.

2. Cost - Again, a no brainer. I can see the savings running anywhere from 2/3 to 1/10 the cost of analogs....certainly over time. Of course this depends on several factors but the potential to save a tremendous amount of money by switching to vaping is quite evident if you do the simplest of math. The initial cost is nominal no matter what you spend if you compare it to even a single benefit such as increasing your health...much less comparing it to all the benefits combined. I jumped in hard and spent almost $500.00 in the first week because I got totally hooked on the whole idea (all of it) the first day I vaped. Heck, before I got my first starter kit, extra, cartos, and accessories...I was ordering more stuff! Obviously, this is a bit extreme (or is it?) but there are very reasonable starter kits out there for as low as $30.00 or so...probably even lower. Anyway, I'm setup for quite a while now and the cost of vaping really can't be judged as even questionable when acknowledging its advantages.

3. Keep Your Habits -When I started recently (after doing a TON of research), I did what most noobs do...I bought a "slim-line" e-cig that resembled an analog (V4L VaporKing...highly recommended). It's natural that being new to vaping after smoking for any reasonable length of time, a person would want to "simulate" smoking. That's one of the main reasons most new vapers don't jump into big battery styles, mods, dripping, juices, etc. There are certainly exceptions but generally, I would bet that the majority of newbies don't do this type of stuff. This was a motivation for me too and I really do like the simulation a lot! Why? Because vaping a "slim-line" does indeed provide me with all of the "habits" I have been conditioned to from smoking. I hold and manipulate my e-cig like an analog. I inhale and exhale a vapor. I get as much nicotine as I want. And of course...all this with none of the negative effects of analogs. No cold-turkey. No weaning. No patches. No gums. No drugs. I went seamlessly from analogs to vaping and haven't looked back. And when looking back...I truly see from a new perspective that illuminates the negatives of smoking cigarettes and the blissfulness of vaping. I'm dead serious as a heart attack (pardon the pun).

4. Relationhips - Believe it or not, vaping can save personal relationships...even marriages. At the least, it can improve them. Of course, this is if you have a partner or spouse that does not smoke and does not like that you smoke. I'm lucky that my girlfriend loves me for ME...and overlooked my smoking. Nevertheless, she patently did not like it but never made it a "deal-breaker". Like I said...I'm lucky. But, I have not always been so lucky. I lost a marriage and a part of it was caused by my smoking....and my selfishness for smoking. I would imagine that there are many others who's relationships might also be suffering various levels of stress due to smoking analogs. Vaping can dramatically change all of that. Now, I said CAN....not WILL. There are MANY other issues that make or break relationships but regardless...vaping will certainly offer less offensive characteristics than analogs to partners and spouses who find them repugnant. No smelly clothes, hair, breath, furniture, car interiors, etc. No yellowing teeth, receding gums, accelerated aging, wrinkles, and bone loss (oral) that present unattractiveness. This is not to mention the fact that you may die of cancer or other smoking related illnesses that will prematurely deprive your partner or spouse of a relationship with you. There's more. No ashtrays, butts, lighters, matches, etc. Even the cost of smoking can contribute to the problem. Trust me...even though my GF didn't like me smoking analogs...she LOVEs the vaping for all the reasons mentioned. In fact, she's the one who introduced me to the e-cig and I can't thank her enough. Love ya babe! Oh yeah...ever had your partner or wife get angry at you becasue you burned a hole in the house furniture or the car seat? Maybe not if you're single but haven't you gotten mad at yourself when you did this to your furniture or car? I know I have.

5. Convenience -Vaping is great because you never have to "run down to the store" to get a pack of smokes. You never have to "stop in" to a store either. You can sit comfortably in your home and order your products to be conveniently shipped to your doorstep (or mailbox). The only down-side is that your mailman might possibly become leery of you since you stalk him relentlessly looking for your new "package" of vaping goodies.

6. Flavors - This is truly a wonderful plus to vaping. I was absolutely intrigued by it and as you might have seen on this site and others...the flavor "thing" is a major turn-on with vaping. It's almost as addictive as the nicotine. There are so many flavors you can buy from various vendors that it boogles the mind. I call it "noodle fry". Moreover, you can mix these purchased liquids to create you own concoctions and even create your own from scratch (DIY i.e. Do It Yourself). The options are staggering...but don't let that deter you in the least. In fact, it's an enormously positive and ENJOYABLE aspect of vaping. To me (and many others I suspect), it's really a lot of FUN. Trying different flavors and hitting on one that really "knocks your socks off" is very rewarding. For instance, I found it amazing that I could vape fruits, coffees, chocolates, spices, deserts, liquors, candies, a range of tobaccos, and all sorts of other concoctions. I found a simple "pear" flavor from V4L that I can't get enough of. Tastes like a Jolly Ranger Green Apple candy with a mix of pear...and I love those anyway. In a vapor, they're unbelievable! I found that vaping a nice white chocolate/strawberry with a cup of coffee is truly delightful. After dinner, I've vaped a cognac that makes me want to go grab a silk smoking jacket and pencil in a thin moustache. When you start vaping, you WILL be drawn in playing with all the flavors. It's a completely new experience that analogs could never offer you in your wildest dreams.

7. E-Cig Options - There are a great deal of options out there to suit your starting needs. Anything you want is available somewhere. There are even electronic pipes and cigars if that's what you want. There are the "slim-lines", and eGo styles with larger batteries, as well as all sorts of mod ("modification") options. The technical options and aspects alone are dizzying. There are colors, finishes, LEDs, cases, etc. If you're considering vaping, you have a bevy of options to choose from. Again, don't let this deter you. Look at all the options as a good thing. A way to specifically meet your personal needs. I use a VaporKing KR808D-1 from V4L and have been very happy with it so far. I may dabble in a "big-battery" model soon but for now, I'm totally impressed. Meets all my needs as a former analoger.

So, you can see even by observing these several points that moving to vaping is definitely in your best interest. Yet, the question might remain, "Will it make me quit smoking"? Well, the answer to this question is quite subjective and very personal. There are some extremely good indicators (including those listed above) that electronic cigarettes provide an incredible alternative to analogs that no other current technology offers. There is no guarantee of course, but you can be sure that vaping WILL ABSOLUTELY aid you in reducing your use of analogs if not helping you to quit smoking altogether. You owe it to yourself, your friends, your fmily, and really anyone and everyone else to at least give vaping a try. We can all help each other in this process to get healthier and care more for each other. The bottom line is this: Just as in anything in life, if you do not WANT something...you will not achieve it. This also applies to stopping the use of analogs. In my case, I LOVED (and love) to smoke. Humans have enjoyed smoking tobacco for millennia and I really enjoyed it as well. BUT...after 20 years of smoking, even though I didn't want to quit...I did WANT to quit because I acknowledged all the negatives associated with it. Particularly dying of cancer or living in an infirmed state. I still had my health and REALLY wanted to keep it for as long as I could. Finally, my desire to stop smoking overcame my want to continue analogs but I truly wanted an acceptable alternative to just quitting or using some "foreign aid or device". Luckily, vaping existed. I feel sorry for all of those people who suffered from the affects of analogs and died before this technology was invented and marketed. If you smoke and truly LOVE it but are considering the risks, consider yourself very lucky that you live in this day and age my friend. You have an incredible opportunity that many, many others did not. And it really works.

Now, for the "cons". Although there might be some minor issues posed by some, I can only think of one truly negative impact of vaping and that is the nicotine itself. As you probably know, nicotine is addictive and highly poisonous when concentrated. In this concentration, even a small amount that comes in contact with the skin can be lethal. Though this is the case, the amount of nicotine in analogs and e-cigs is not poisonous and so far, it has not been associated with exhibiting any carcinogenic properties. Nevertheless, the use of nicotine does cause health issues such as restriction and hardening of the arteries, increased blood pressure, and reduced blood-oxygen levels, among others. Psychological issues have been observed as well including depression, panic attacks, and anxiety disorders. Make no mistake, nicotine is NOT good for you. Yet, another great advantage of vaping is that you can gradually remove even the nicotine by vaping lower and lower milligrams of it in the e-liquid you use. You can even vape 0mg and STILL do the "smoking" thing! What a great option!

Well, I hope this might help some of you who are thinking about quitting analogs and are looking to vaping as an alternative. It's tough to stop such a wickedly addicting habit while at the same time hear so many of us vapers saying that it's a "magic bullet". Your fears and apprehensions are not unfounded but take comfort in knowing that we all can't be wrong. I for one can tell you that I since started vaping, I have not had one puff from an analog nor have I had any cravings for one. The e-cig has done exceptionally well for me in effortlessly taking the place of smoking. With all the options out there, the fun awaits you...so dive in head-first and enjoy a little will ya!? Do your research, ask questions, get the right setup, and vape away all of your fears, anxieties, and worries. ECF is THE place to get all your answers and there are a TON of extremely knowledgeable people here that are MORE than happy to help you in ANY way they can. I also recommend going on YouTube and watching a lot of reviews on e-cig models and e-liquid flavors. I can tell you that I found myself curiously enjoying watching all those reviewers just sitting there vaping a new flavor or giving their opinion on an e-cig. It was odd and intriguing...yet addicting to watch someone vape. Maybe I was really imagining myself vaping. Oh wait....I wasn't imagining it. I WAS vaping while watching! Truly amazing. So from me to you...the best of luck!

P.S. Among all the other great comments and advice on this site form a multitude of knowledgeable folks, I heartily recommend reading DonDaBoomVape's 6-part series here on vaping. It's very well written and incredibly informative. A MUST read for anyone considering an e-cig. :smokie:

This was a great post!! I am new to vaping. I almost got sucked into the "mall ecig" but thought I'd do some research first. This seemed like a cool new "toy". I found this forum which has more info than I could possibly absorb. This caused the next issue of info overload. But at some point in time you have to "shoot the engineer and ship the product" so I got a DSE801 which I am very happy with. I've been vaping for about 4 weeks now.

Ok so what's my point. When I started this I had no intention of stopping the analogs. I just thought it would be cool to "smoke" inside. Now something unexpected has happened. I don't want analogs anymore. They taste terrible now. The range of juice flavors is outstanding. I am even starting some DIY juice. I have several friends at work who now want to try this vaping thing. I may have accedientaly saved my own life or extended it anyway. Thanks go to everyone who contributes to this forum!!!!!
