+1 to getting a vw type device as you'll be able to adjust for coil types and flavour. I started with an iStick 30 then a Kanger Subox Mini kit which comes with a tank and a rba, a rebuildable deck so you can build your own coils or use store bought coils. I would say at least 30 watt device. Battery mah is important as that will determine how long you can vape between charges. Something with a replaceable battery allows you to just pop in a fresh battery and continue to vape is something to also consider.
I'm not up on the latest starter kits but someone who is will reply soon :vapor:

Hi Schurch & welcome
On your Freak mini you can build pretty much anything to suit the mod you have. Conversely you can purchase a mod to handle pretty much any build and that is the route I'd suggest to you. As such I'd suggest 75 W device is about as low as you'd want to go. How big & heavy do you want it. One battery devices are fairly pocket friendly but they are pretty much limited to 75 to 80 W and at that power are hard pressed to last a day's vaping. Two battery mods will get you up to 150 to 200 W but they're heavier & larger but will last the whole day as long as you're not pushing them to their max power. Of course their are 3 and 4 battery mods too and I think I just saw a 5 not too long ago.

I think you'd be hard pressed to find a modern mod with VW that didn't also have have VTC, and of course the newest mods have adjustable/programmable modes and there is even one now playing MP3 files and showing pics. So I'd suggest a mod with the normal full complement of VTC even if you don't plan on using it (I and many others don't bother with TC though almost all of my mods are capable of it).

I've always been partial to the Evic Mini VTC though they are getting hard to find and have probably been long surpassed with the newer mods as far as price and capabilities. Want to go inexpensive the Aster mod is about $27, one battery, and all the normal modes. It is actually a nice little unit, I have 2 of them. Want to go fancier then say the Smok G Priv to 220 W at about $60 to $70. Or any of the other many suggestions folks are making.

What's a good mod to start with on a budget
Budget: Eleaf products such as smoke_to_much recommendation.
Choosing the right battery often depends on the vaper's vape style. What battery are you using now and at what ohms and wattage?
Just, hit "like" at bottom right hand corner of this post if you need any more information and I (or someone else) can read your question and get back to you.

Have you been vaping long? or is this your first device? I wouldn't start out building for a first time vaper - just adds a ton of other variables you have to manage - start with a tried and true tank/mod setup like a Pico or a similar kit that has some variation (watts/volts - coil ohm choices). You have enough to deal with trying to find the right juice and power/airflow settings, no need to add building to the mix.

out side of that i don't have much to offer since i'm not up on the latest and greatest hardware... most of my friends rock the RX200 or some variant and seem extremely happy with it. The AIO is supposed to be a beginner device, but I love it for out and about.

something to think about.... a new path? how can it be new if its a path? seems as if paths are created by consistant usage along a specific walkway... ( dont mind me... this happens alot) ;)
lmao you are such a goofball!

i started with a 75w single battery mod, now i have a 220w dual battery mod... i don't vape all that high wattage(average depending on the setup is 22.5 to 35w), i bought the dual battery mod just for the longer battery time. something to keep in mind for the future.
