There was a slew of articles today. Mostley PR from leading brands I never heard of and a some about smoking bans in cities or counties. Here are a couple I thought were the most interesting.

The bad:

WHAT ITS NOT: Experts say electronic cigarettes are not a nicotine replacement therapy or a quitting method. There is currently no evidence that they are beneficial to those who want to break the addiction. In addition, some academics are calling for the United States government to regulate the electric cigarette industry. Their concern: if electric cigarettes do not perform as claimed … consumers have the right to know. (SOURCE: health.yahoo.net)

Studies say electric cigarettes are not what they seem

The good:
Giving up smoking is probably the single most important thing that a mother can do for her baby’s health. This is because cigarette smoke contains over 4,000 toxins and chemicals that can be harmful to an unborn baby.

Like patches and gums, E Cigarettes will help you to reduce your nicotine levels in a controlled way, until you feel able to give up the drug completely.

The first one is ridiculous. In addition to referring to research which is years out of date (and was conducted before e-cigs are as advanced as they are now) it also says that someone managed to quit without using nicotine - so what's bad about that? And I would love to see the author of the study actually use some extra-high strength cartridges/e-juice and then say there is no nicotine in it...

I posted the link to the first story here last week last week:
http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/fo...y-electric-cigarettes-not-what-they-seem.html

That story was based on outdated information. I guess one can't expect "journalists" to do any sort of research any more while doing their jobs.

The study referred to in the article about e cigs not delivering nicotine was conducted by Dr. Eissenberg's. In this study he used an off the shelf brand found in convenience stores and first time vapors. He realized his mistake and is doing a followup study with experienced vapors and their own brand of pv. The preliminary results of the second study confirm that vapors get comparable amounts to nicotine to cigarettes.

I now this article is ridiculous and that's why I put it up.

What killed me about it was that the reporter was obviously clueless that a follow up study had been done. I found the follow up study after less than 30 seconds of searching on Google. How many lazy stupid smokers who can't be bothered to operate a search engine are not going to try ecigs now because of a lazy stupid reporter?

Personally, I love the first argument... e-cigs are just plain wrong because they DON'T contain the substance everyone else is so worked up about.

It would seem to follow that next we'll see, "E-cig makers say their products aren't smoking cessation devices... but many are reporting they have quit. This is an obvious ripoff of the consumers who may find out they quit smoking even if they didn't plan to or intend to.."

I read a lot of these and reporters that bother to thoroughly research the articles they write are far and few between.
