One full day with my 510, more questions.

So, I just got my Joye 510 and been trying it out for a day. Not bad, the manual batt was really awkward at first, but it's starting to feel more normal. It's still early on, but I'm thinking I'll be sticking with vaping and since I only started with the bare minimum to test it out I have to think about all the stuff I'll need to vape f/t.

First question regards batteries/passthroughs. I spend most of my day in front of a computer, so I'm thinking a USB passthrough would be the way to go. I didn't realize there were so many options with this. I've noticed there are ones where it just runs straight to your computer and others have a sort of battery pack. Preferences? Also, one place had a choice of a 3.7 Volt or a 5 Volt. I was also looking at the "mega" 510 batteries I've seen. Do they last much longer?

Second question/topic. The Marlboro carts that came with the kit are not good and I forgot to buy empty carts, so I've been doing the dripping thing. Not sure if this is gonna be a pain in the ...., though to do constantly or when on the go. My question is what is the difference between the cartomizers and the cart/atomizer setup and the benefits/drawbacks of each?

My third and final (I swear) question is regarding the juice. I grabbed a sampler from thevaporroom.net. All the flavors are pretty good, but they seem majorly weak. The only two that are strong enough are the 555 Menthol and Hot Cinnamon Candy. I was wondering if this is due to the company (for those who have ordered from them), the way I'm using it, or if there are just certain flavors that are generally stronger than others. Btw, the menthol is 18mg, and the others are all 12mg. Not sure if this is in any way relevant, but I thought I'd throw it in there. For reference, flavorwise my fave cig is a Camel Crush after it's been crushed, and I used to like clove cigs when they were available. Perhaps I just like strong flavors to begin with.

Sorry for the abundance of questions, all of which I'm sure have been answered before, but I'm having trouble wading through all the info on the site. Thanks to all those who have helped me out so far.

Hi, Mellie! Don't apologize for the number of questions. We all have them, and the only dumb question is the one you didn't ask.

I got a bunch of tobacco flavored carts with my eGo kit and I hated them. I buy all of my juice from VaporBomb and with the exception of Maraschino Cherry, they've all been excellent. They don't sell premixed juice, so everything is fresh when you order it. You can even create some of your own flavors! I haven't tried any of their menthols, but I've heard that the Virginia Menthol is good. They also have a clove flavor that I'll be trying at some point. I smoked clove cigs when I was stationed in Egypt years ago.

Regarding the difference between cartomizers (cartos) and cartridges (carts); Cartomizers consist of an atomizer and a cartridge all in one. For some people, they're easier to handle because you only need to change one piece. They're handy for driving and long trips. They can be a little harder to refill than carts, and once they die you have to replace them. Cartridges require the use of a separate atomizer. The atomizer screws on to the battery and the cart is attached to the end of the atomizer. Atty's don't last forever, but it's not unusual for them to last a couple of months or more if they're cared for properly. This is what I currently use with my 510 PT and eGo kit. I like carts because they're easier to refill and maintain.

I love my 510 PT and chain vape in front of my computer. I have the type with the battery, which is included. A really good option would be the Sit 'N Go 510 PT. It's a PT and an extra battery all at the same time. It charges while being used as a PT, then disconnects and can be used like a regular battery. eGo also has one that I'm thinking of buying. I highly recommend either one for anyone who spends a lot of time in front of a computer or a gaming console with USB ports.

Happy vaping, and please ask all the questions you want!

cart/atomo vs cartomizer, if you like to switch juices frequently cartmo's are nice no left over flavor from the previous cart. Personally I like the cartmo's better because I like to switch flavors through out the day and they're more convenient.

Battery pass through's are nice cause its an extra battery you can take with you, plug it in your cig lighter in your car and you always have a full battery ready to go, I just got an eGo pass through and I love it, off the cord the battery will last me through an 8 hour shift at work. The Mega's I *think* last about twice as long as a regular 510, so it goes 510, mega, eGo/riva for lasting power.

Never used vaporroom before but juices from some places do have more flavor then some others, I have 2 raspberry's here both 13mg nic one I think i got from azsmokefree is pretty weak, another the other is from vaperite and pretty strong.

The best thing to do is click Advanced Search at the top right, then type in the keyword you're looking for, and then change the drop-down menu to the right to Search Titles Only. For instance, you'll find all kinds of threads if you search for "cartomizers."

Favorite battery that lasts all day or more: eGo 1000mah from Cignot.com (skip buying the kit if you won't be using the time-consuming attys and cartridges)
Favorite passthrough: 5v 510 from madvapes.com (I have two on order, but these are highly recommended by people here.)
Cartomizers - See my signature
Juice supplier - best service and flavors is FreedomSmokeUSA.com, in my opinion and many others here.

Welcome and have fun vaping!

One thing that nobody really hit on yet and that is flavor. There are several things to consider with these.
Most of the cig flavors I have tried taste like crap. Find some pipe tobacco flavors and you will be much happier.
Concerning flavors. If the place you order from mixes theirs per order. Sometimes you might have to wait a few days for the flavors to develop. Revisit them after a few days sitting around and see if they taste better.
Cartomizers and cartridges really reduce the flavor of the juices for me. That filler just sucks the life right out of the juice. Dripping is good but can be a pain. For now, I was shown a great little mod to do to your cartridges that takes out about 90% of the filler and its just used for plugging it up so the juice dont leak out. Simple Cartridge Mod I have been using it for a few hours now and is as good as dripping without having to drip every few minutes. These are all my personal opinion, I have only been vaping for 6 days now but thats some things I have seen that work for me.

1) When I got my 510, I purchased Nicotine Nirvana's Joye 510 Ultimate Starter Kit. It came with a passthrough I didnt think I would use. Turns out I was wrong. I use it ALL the time when I am at my computer. It has an in line battery as well, which came in handy one day when I messed up and forgot to properly recharge my batteries. I grabbed my passthrough and vaped that for a few hours while my battery recharged. I couldn't be near my computer at the time so the inline battery saved me.

2) The prefilled carts that come with kits are often bad. BUT you can clean them out and put different juice in there.

Cartomizers are very easy to use. Just screw them in and go. But refilling a cartomizer requires a bit more finesse than a cartridge. I used cartomizers on my KR808 but I stick strictly to carts now on my 510. I find that switching flavors on a cartridge is way easier than a cartomizer AND cartridges are alot cheaper as I have NEVER had to replace one. I purchased 20 when I got my 510 which came with 5 prefilled and got another 5 prefilled when I purchased my Ego, which gives me 30 carts that will last me forever. You just need to buy filler. I went with polyfill I picked up at a pet store for 2 bucks. Ive used maybe a tenth of it. It will also last me "forever" Others will tell you polyfill is not the best filler but its worked like a charm for me. Cartomizers on the other hand have a very short life span by comparison and will require you to purchase more and more of them.

3) Menthol flavors are normally stronger than other flavors but there are a few factors you should be aware of when it comes to flavor strength.

a) Your taste buds are dead. Its as simple as that. You don;t realize how bad they are yet, but in a few weeks, they will come back to life and let me tell you, you are in for a treat!!!! Food will have flavor you didnt know was there. Some foods you didnt like before will be amazing now, others that you loved won't taste very good anymore. This is completely normal. Cigarettes killed your taste buds, now that your not assaulting them anymore, they will return. If you're looking for better battery life I strongly urge you upgrade to an Ego or Riva. All your 510 stuff will fit onto them and the battery life for the lowest Ego/Riva is at least double that of a 510.

b) Some juices don't really taste all that good when they arrive at your house, but a few days or even a week later, they can really come into their own. This is because some juices just need time to age ( or steep ). I have never tried thevaporroom.net so I can't speak about their juices directly but juices needing to steep ( or age ) is a fairly common thing. I have found that Tasty Vapor ( my favorite juice supplier ) is one of the few juice suppliers that I have been able to truly enjoy the day the juice arrives. Vaporbomb on the other hand Ive had to let all their juice but one age a week before vaping it. Then it fairly good. Read the site some more especially the juice review section and see if any of the flavor descriptions seem interesting. Then order something new until you find whats right for you. Both Vaporbomb and Ms T's have sampler sizes of their liquids, Tasty vapor does not.

Hope that helps

Thanks for all the info guys. I never thought about the dead taste buds, or juice needing to age. I'll see what happens in a few days. I definitely need a USB passthrough ASAP. I was looking at the 5V from madvapes, but I have one more question about these. I have been hearing some people say a passthrough can mess up your laptop ports, which I can so not afford to have happen, so I'm thinking I should go with an AC/USB adapter instead of using my comp. Madvapes has one that seems to go with the 5v passthrough, but since I'm broke and have some amazon credit I was thinking can't I buy an adapter made for other electronics? I'm assuming I just need to make sure the tech specs are correct to work with the passthrough. Not sure what those specs would be, though.

I've not heard about it messing up your USB port but I'm pretty new to it all myself too. I have a 12 port USB hub that plugs into a wall outlet, I use that for charging all my e-cigs, along with my phone, mouse, bluetooth headset, ps3 and 360 controllers. The hub only cost me about $15 from newegg, amazon has them too.

I've had three Magma passthroughs from Volcano for the last three weeks, all are automatic and have been plugged into a computer USB port (and into my car cigarette lighter using a 1amp adapter from cignot). They seem to work fine most of the time, but sometimes, they quit working for a few seconds, and I have to unplug one of the cables and plug it back in (and fiddle with it until it works again). I think it's because the passthrough is not getting enough power from the computer port (which supposedly supplies .5amp on each port). It's been recommended at ECF several times that a passthrough should be plugged into a 2amp wall adapter to work properly all the time (by ensuring that it's getting enough power, which I guess the .5 and 1.0 amp ports/connections might not do).

So, I recently bought two of the 2amp wall adapters, a 2amp car cig lighter adapter, and 2 5V passthroughs at madvapes.com, solely based on my problems with the cheapie Volcano passthroughs AND some posters here at ECF who advised to buy these items at madvapes. I haven't received them yet, but I've come to trust the recommendations by those who posted about this subject.

So, be sure the adapter you buy supports an output of 2amps. I can't tell you if the adapters at other online stores will work or not, but posters here have claimed the adapters at madvapes will work with the 5V passthroughs sold at madvapes. I chose to buy these parts because I no longer want to plug my passthroughs into the computer -- and I've found that they need adapters that will provide more amps.

I'll also mention that one of my passthroughs is broken already. The pin that connects into the USB cable round connection is gone. I'm currently waiting to receive an email response from Volcano and a replacement passthrough. It takes Volcano about a week to respond to emails, based on the first email I sent to them.

deback: I looked at what you prefer in juice on the bottom of your posts. Apparently you add Glycerin to RY4? If so, what is it and what benefit is it? Is it PG or VG or something different? Or if anyone else knows this....

I didn't know about it until I did a search and ran across someone talking about dead ports. Not sure if it's common, but I don't want to risk it. Also, I've seen a lot of comments about certain passthroughs and certain computers not providing enough power to work them correctly. I figure it would be safer and easier to just skip the computer ports altogether.

Good to know, I've been using my eGo PT and charging other batteries on my hub with no issues but its running off AC not my PC so maybe it puts out enough power.

deback, I've been leaning towards placing almost the same order as you from madvapes. I should probably do that and get adapters I know are compatible, but the cheapy in me is getting in the way.

I understand what you're saying, but my experience in the last month has been that I shouldn't have bought cheap. You wouldn't believe how much money I could have saved if I had bought quality parts (and juice) from the start. I'm not using any of the parts or liquids that I started with just one month ago. And many of the new users on this forum can claim the same.
