Today is the four week point for me. I'm not sure if that is a month exactly, but it is close enough for our purposes. I have not smoked a cigarette in four weeks. The last time I went this long was before I had my first smoke. Here are some of my observations and experiences thus far. Perhaps it will be a help to those getting started.
1) This was ridiculously easy. I've mentioned before that I consider this a miracle. To be factual, it is simply the best nicotine replacement therapy going. I tried patches, gum, mints, Santeria, etc. I bet if you are thinking about vaping and are reading this, you have been down the same road. You want to quit smoking. Buy a 510 (cheap starter ecig), pick a day and commit yourself to it for a day. You'll be shocked at how easy it is to walk away from those twenty old friends in the little pack.
2) I seem to have more free time. This sounds strange, but I feel like I have an extra hour every day. I smoked regularly, but never at work. If a smoke takes ten minutes, that was two hours a day I dedicated to smoking. I never thought of it that way, but smoking takes up a lot of time.
3) I have more energy. Frankly, I'm bouncing off the walls. I sleep less and have so much more energy, I'm often looking for things to do. My guess is the carbon monoxide in cigarettes slows you down. It certainly makes you tired, but I think it saps your energy too.
4) Related to the above two items, I started working out again. Maybe you are different, but smoking made feel unhealthy. I was a gym rat through my twenties and into my thirties. Smoking, eventually beat me down and I gave up the gym. Quitting the butts changed that psychology. All the new energy and extra time, plus a positive feel about myself has me back in the gym and loving it.
5) vaping is not smoking, as far as the impact on your body. I tend to get slight headaches from being dehydrated. That's something you have to keep in mind. Everyone is different, but keep in mind that the stuff in the ecig tends to dry you out.
6) My vaping started to drop. This is a bit weird. I smoked a lot whenever I drank. I just assumed it was the beer that led to the increased smoking. Oddly, I drink way less now that I vape. That may simply be a coincidence. But, it is observable. At first I vaped like crazy, but then it dropped way off. If your goal is to get off nicotine entirely, but fear quitting, this is something to keep in mind. You can gradually taper off with vaping and it may happen without much thought.
Anyway, thanks to everyone here for support and information. I hope this helps the guy or gal that is thinking about joining the ecig life.
