Was just reading (yet another) article on the Bill passing. This one was on MSNBC. At the bottom was a link to an online Opinion Poll. Surprisingly, so far, more people are against this Bill than for it. There's also a 'comments' section. Not surprisingly, those for the Bill display complete ignorance of it saying it will "stop/reduce" deaths, smoking, etc.

I didn't read all 11 pages of the comments (only the first one actually) so didn't see e-cigs or reduced harm products mentioned, but hopefully it's there somewhere.

Wouldn't hurt if the ECF members cast their votes, would be great to boost the "opposed" side.....

Newsvine - Did the Senate go too far in voting to regulate tobacco products and ads?-

I have to say I am not totally against THE BILL. OK I said it. Yes, it's BS. It shouldn't grandfather anything or anybody, and it shouldn't protect PM. But I think the FDA should tell tobacco companies that they can't put anything in cigarettes except tobacco! We don't even know what we are addicted to!!
I quit in 1985. Cold turkey. Did it in 2 days, couldn't stand to be around them. Started up again 2 years later and since then quitting has been frightening. Just the idea of it. Lasted 8 days once, 4 months another time... Never stopped wanting one. Never wanted one to be my last.
What is different? What else is in them? Everyone want to speculate about the dangers of something from China??? North Carolina scares me more than China does.
I am PO'd about the flavor deal. I am 49 years old and I can like flavors too! Ban Peach Snapps! Who got the idea that only juveniles like flavors??? Yeah,they are the ones buying hazelnut coffee at Starbucks!
I would like to see big tobacco taken down. It is just a shame that the ecig market is going to be handed over to them on a silver platter.
I'll stock up on atomizers and juice, I can make the rest. Hopefully I will wean myself off of these too before I give PM another dime.

Sorry, 42109, the biggest of the big tobacco company will benefit from this, not be taken down. Philip Morris, which has spent millions of dollars campaigning for this bill, will see it products strengthened as safe alternatives are banned, because only its cigarettes are ready for regulations and because as the most recognised brand it will suffer least from reduced advertising. Other tobacco companies which have poured millions into safer alternatives will see that money go down the drainpipe. No wonder Bill Godshall calls this the Philip Morris protection bill.

I guess you missed the fact that PHILLIP MORRIS co-wrote this bill and the fda receives a lot, lot, lot (closest figure I could come up with)of money from tobacco taxes. I do not believe they are going to stick it to big tobacco

Wouldn't it be great if we do away with senators, representatives, and congressmen. I mean, it isn't like 200 years ago when it would have been a pain in the .... to fire up the horse and buggy and run to DC every time we needed to vote on a bill. I don't need a representative. Do you?
I know they don't always vote how we want them to, but a pure democracy scares the h**l outta me. I don't want the uninformed, ignorant masses outvoting the informed with nothing that could be done about it. Yikes!

Voted....what a farce...the FDA hasn't controled "other drugs" from children, what makes them think kids are not going to try tobacco?

Sure they have! Just look at those child proof caps that grandma or grandpa can't get off due to their arthritis, but a four year old can generally figure out. That's safety you can believe in! </sarcasm>

@SmokinSandy:

Your not the only one scared by a 100% democracy. California is the closest thing we have to that with all their "referendums" and look at the state of that state.
