Okay, this may seem like a super basic question, but how do you guys pull apart your atomizers? I have several that are not screw ons, they pull apart and have no exposed base bottom to grab onto to pull on other than the thread 'ring' around the post. Since my fingers aren't particularly strong, I can't just hold onto that ring, so I use a pliers to hold it while I pull on the top to get it off. I don't like the idea of keeping it in the mod to open it and take a chance on continuous strain on the 510 connections, but is that what you guys do?

I'm asking because up until the other day I never had a problem doing it the way I said above. I got a new rba the other day, and it's nice looking--admitedly cheap, but nice looking (I won't bother to say I hate the way it works, it isn't an issue anymore as you will see anyway). the fact that it was a cheap atty should probably be the answer to my question, but I want to make sure, as even though my others seem strong enough, they are clones, not originals and this may happen to them and maybe I've just been lucky.

The atty I'm actually talking about though is a smok 2.0 Ohm rba (I think some people call it an octopus). Anyway, when I opened it my usual way, the thread ring just collapsed in on itself against the post. I was able to 'reshape' it into a circle with a tweezer, that's how malable the metal is. It doesn't screw on right anyway though, but basically as far as that atty goes, I don't really care because even before I attempted to open it to recoil it, it worked horribly.

My main question is (and sorry this has been so long)---is using a pliers to grasp the thread post a bad idea? Should I just leave them on a mod to open it, or screw it onto my ohm meter and open them all the time?

Don't ever grab the 510 threads with pliers. If you burr up the threads, those threads will eventually damage the female threads in your mod, which can get expensive. Always screw the atty on a mod to remove the cap. Some caps can be stubborn, especially when they are new, and have never had any juice on the o rings to lubricate them.
I have a 3 1/2 year old cigalike battery, from my beginning vaping days, that I use as a tool. When I get a new RDA, I screw it into the 510 cigalike battery, to hold on when I pull the cap off.

I usually use a old spinner battery to do my builds on or my ohm meter

But as a rule if thumb you always want to protect those threads

I suggest you build a stand just for building maybe utilizing a old top cap off a mech mod

Thanks V... once I have the base off I just put it on my ohm meter to rebuild it. It was the getting it off that was the issue. Thanks though.

Oooh, that's a good idea. I have an old ego that I never use. It's in a drawer. I didn't even think of digging that out and using that as a way to hold onto the base of an atomizer. THANKS.... and I get it, never use pliers ever again. LOL
Just be careful of the tightness on the spinner battery lol make sure its always tight I fibd that the threading on there is a bit loose so it presents a problem when your atyy is loose but like a champ when tight
