I need opinions about starting a petition at work for a vaping section.
We used to be able to vape at work outside and in the breakroom, now seems they have said it is to be taken the same way as smoking and not done at all on the properity.
I am on a committee that speaks for the employees. I am sure that at least 80% of the employees vape and am sure at least another 15% it would not bother. SO, just wondering if this could be brought up at the next committee meeting and any suggestions what might help me get it approved.

First - you probably want to refine your statistical estimates - for credibility. You're saying 80% of the entire workforce vapes?
How large a company?

First step should always be a professional, well thought out proposal cited at a committee meeting, not a petition.
If the committee thinks there is any merit, maybe later down the line the petition could make sense to help assemble more accurate statistics.

I would be armed with the studies done so far. All "they" know is it looks like smoke.

Ahh, the illiterati.

Look over these sites. Great information...

Also, propose a solution to management. Ask for an area outside to vape. Point out there will not be any toxic cig butts (the reason smoking is banned on beaches and parks in many areas). And offer that the vapers will be responsible for keeping the area clean.

It has to be a win for them or they will just deny the idea.

Of course, it might be nothing to do with chemicals and toxins. It might be your employers concern of people not working and taking too many vape breaks.

But if it during your break or lunch break, they really have no reason to deny vaping outside, and far enough away from frequently used doorways. I wouldn't stand in front of the main door. Management wouldn't want employees loitering outside in view of clients or visitors. The loading dock is always a safe bet.

Good luck.

Hey Coffee Addict, if there are any smokers, wouldn't they feel discriminated against because (assuming you get permission to vape outside) you can and they can't? I'm just saying, not to be negative, but so you are aware of the possible backlash. I could see the smokers saying "F that, if we can't, then they can't".

A side benefit might be that the smokers might take up vaping to sate their nic urges during their break. Even if they vaped at work then smoked at home, that could lead some smokers to take up vaping and possibly quit. And that would be a win-win.
