Non-smokers definitely do not like smokers. Actually, they do not like smoke. I'm sure they have nothing against the people who smoke (ha ha). So if they truly do not like smoke, then they should be happy to have more vaping around them rather than smoking. Now that I am not a smoker, I cannot stand the smell. I can smell an analog smoker a mile away. I work with smokers who refuse to try a PV for whatever reason. I think we need to approach any non-smoking opposing vaping with this reasoning: would they rather walk down the street with people blowing smoke in their face or would they rather those same people vape?

Ok here is my letter to the show. Its the same letter I used to write Mr. Moore. We need as many people as we can to write in, or its pretty much useless.

Hello Mr Winfrey

I would like to bring your attention to an issue that is currently being fought.
Your letter didn't actually say "Mr. Winfrey" did it? 8-o

and that these same chemicals are found in approved NRT products.

Perhaps it would be a good idea to not use NRT, but rather say something like :

approved nicotine replacement products such as.....

We all know what NRT means, but who else does?

I hear you, but I also have that 2,000 character limit to contend with. How about just "FDA-approved products," and not get involved with spelling out the classification of the products and listing examples?

Also, having read in an earlier response that Dr. N is sensitive about being considered a "spokesperson for the products," I have come up with an alteration of "Speaking for the product." I think "Speaking in favor of keeping the products available" would be better, and would not be a mischaracterization of Dr. N's position.

These two edits put the character count at 1960.

Has anyone in this discussion done research as to the SPONSORS that spend money for advertising in/on/ and around this show?
We all should know by now "It is the MONEY doing the talking".
If any company that is involved in the production of any NRT product is spending ANY money to sponsor this show or any other Oprah enterprise, this has very little likelyhood of ever getting off the ground.
More power to you. It will be intersting to view any response(s) that might develop from this campaign.
It would be fantastic if this panned out, but, think about the wisdom of putting all the bets on this one horse.

I think trying to get a show on Oprah is great. There are many of us trying to get a discussion on any television show. There are several of us that have sent emails to the networks for a variety of shows. The more this topic in general is out in the media the better chance we have of someone picking it up and running with it. Let me know if I can help in any way.

OK, I have submitted my piece, which provides a factual framework. Now, perhaps some of you might want to add a human spin to the whole thing by suggesting they do a show on e-cigarettes, the miracle that allowed you to substitute something less harmful for your tobacco smoking.

The recurring theme we keep seeing in this forum is that people who smoked for decades and tried everything else to quit are finally able to put down their tobacco. Why isn't this being recognized as a good thing? Why are organizations that should have our health as their priority trying to take away the one thing that allowed us to regain our physical health?

Love this idea. What about an all open debate with BT there and show the public the difference between smoking and vaping. Have a list of all the chemicals in cigarettes and e-cigs. I doubt very seriously if BT would committ to a standoff, they know they will lose. But by having both parties present it would definately make a good show for Oprah. Just my 2 cents worth.

I love this idea... I will support in any way possible... not a real "fan" of Oprah... but whatever works I am willing to give a shot.

We need a letter that everyone can send (those of us that suck at writing) that all we have to do is change a few lines to make it our own... Kristin or Vocalek... you both seem to write well... would you be willing?

I dont want to go back to the first page but who created this post is a pretty good writer as well... just give those of us that need some help a place to start... I'm willing... just crappy with words.

thanks all... great work!!!!!!!!!

If this would get onto Oprah it would make the first time I've ever watched the Oprah show. More power to allof you.

Being Canadian I tend to stay out of sending thoughts about e-cigs to the FDA and senate etc as I'm not an American citizen and therefore my thoughts mean nothing to American law makers and decision makers. Here in Canada we already have a ban in place and I purchase e-cigs illegally and have no clue how to even go about lobbying for things like this in Canada as our laws are different. The Health Canada regulations are different from the FDA regulations for example. My only real hope is that you southern neighbors win this fight and (as with many other things) Canada follows suit. Personally I feel we have an even more uphill battle up here than you do. I have frequently seen mention of how much you pay in taxes on analogs and I can only WISH our tobacco taxes were so low. For example, not including any of the manufacturing and federal taxes, provincial taxes ALONE here in Alberta are 30 cents PER CIGARETTE. Our packs are 25 cigarettes per pack so provincially alone they would lose $7.50 per pack and for a pack a day smoker $2737.50 per year. A pack of cigarettes costs anywhere from $10 to $14 depending on which brand you buy. Keep in mind this is based on Alberta taxes and prices, other provinces charge different amounts and have different prices, some higher and some lower.

The challenge: We don't want to be seen as "spamming" Oprah's suggestion box, so a true "form letter" is probably not a good idea.

How about this idea? Don't copy the questions, but answer these questions in your own words as the text of your message.

1) Why do you want Oprah to do a show on electronic cigarettes (e-cigarettes)?
2) What is your smoking history?
3) What things did you try to help you quit?
4) How much have your reduced your smoking -or- how long have you refrained from smoking tobacco since beginning to use the e-cigarette?
5) What health improvements have you experienced?
6) What other benefits have you noticed?
7) How have your friends and family reacted to your switching to an e-cigarette?

If you don't have a good answer to some of the questions, just skip them. Also, feel free to change the order around.

TIPS: Avoid jargon such as "analogs", "PV", "vaping". Instead, use generally-recognized terms such as "tobacco cigarettes", "electronic cigarettes", and "using an electronic cigarette" or "inhaling vaporized nicotine from an electronic cigarette."

(Many people in this forum dislike calling the product "electronic cigarette", but that is the term that the public recognizes most easily.)

Does this help?

While I've never actually seen the show, doesn't she have a repution for sandbagging people once they get on there? I'd be nervous that we'd get on the show only to get blasted. I may be completely wrong, but that's kind of the impression I have of her show.

I'm afraid that Mainer is right on the head with his post.
Besides the fact that the "hostess" is undoubtably going to be governed by the sponsors and networks that supply the money to air that show, She is more likely to promote the "yet another evil tobacco product" drivel than provide more than a passing (if ANY ! ) glimpse of the benefits that we would prefer.

Unless someone she knows personally has been saved from tobacco by an e-cigarette, you should honestly expect a biased and dangerous bit of publicity from that media outlet.

PLEASE measure your effort going in this direction, and devote an equal amount of time to a different group/ show/ or celebrity, and you might just realize a more beneficial outcome.

I will just say it one more time , and then I am going to bow out of this
