Hey REOville,
Long time since I posted here but am sure somebody will help with my dilemma. I have been running AW IMR 1600 and 2000 IMRs forever but recently bought (4) Orbtronic 2250 IMRs. I also installed the gold/beryllium contact set in all of my Grands and Minis but I seem to have induced some major arcing. My REOmizer coils never go below 1.1Ω but by the end of the workday I notice the vapor production falling off and when I check I'm getting arcing at the positive pole. If I pull the battery and reinsert it seems fine for a bit and then it returns. Today I tried an AW 2000 and no problem has been seen or felt all day. There seems to be a 1MM or less difference in diameter of the positive button between the Orb and the AW (AW bigger) but I don't see that being an issue. I have removed the derlin panel and repositioned the pin but the arcing always comes back. I have not cleaned the contacts but have maybe been using the new contacts for 3 weeks. Any ideas? Thanks in advance. Brew

I understand that arcing can be related to a dirty pin but this is not happening with the AW batteries. Just wondered if this might be an Orbtronic thing. Checked firing pin and see no discoloration. I'll try cleaning....I had hoped that Noalox was a thing of the past.

All batteries arc. Clean the firing pin.

I thought so too, but apparently the gold plating can wear off too and that leaves a beryllium copper pin - which will not need to be filed like the old one, but i have a feeling something like Noalox or Deoxit, that others use may well be the way to go.

All my batteries arc regardless, not just the Orbies - what i mean is it's a natural result of breaking an electrical connection. Better battery life and not having to clean the Reo every week, file pin, noalox, is an improvement!

ETA: you also need to make sure the tops of your batteries are clean and shiny too.

My new Orbtronic 2250 IMR button tops do not arc at all in a brand new LP Grand. My coil is 1.3ohm. I haven't used noalox yet, but I will very soon to prolong the life of the coating on the firing pin.

That's because you use what used to be called 'low resistance' coils. The issue has always been that at sub-ohm numbers the arcing is pronounced and regular cleaning is required.

The benefit to those that use those setups is less frequent cleaning and the benefit for everyone else is better battery life.
