Hello, new to this forum! :) I have never rebuilded a coil in my life, yet I want to start. I want to start with an Orchid v4 clone because it holds alot of e liquid and blows really huge clouds. What are your thoughts on it for a starter? (Currently on a VTR). Also, I am looking for a Mech mod that looks flush on it, probably something that looks like an Skeleton Key, but I don't know the diameter of the Orchid nor the Skeleton Key(1:1 Clone). Thanks in advance!

Hello and welcome to the forum. Glad to have you here!:)

If you are new to mech mods and rebuildables I highly recommend you spend some time with Baditude (one of our resident battery experts) and visit his blogs. You are now 100% in control of your own safety (and others around you). Make sure you purchase an ohm reader and a voltmeter or DMM so you can measure your builds, check for shorts and measure the remaining charge on your batteries.

Baditudes Blogs. The blogs regarding mods and rebuildables are listed below:

BATTERIES

9. Battery Basics for Mods: IMR or Protected ICR?
* Another essential read to understand which batteries are safe to use in mechanical and regulated mods. Includes a frequently updated list of recommended safe-chemistry, high-drain batteries with their specifications.

17. Purple Efest Batteries Not As Advertised
* A cautionary blog that reveals that the purple Efest batteries may not have the specifications advertised. Also includes a commentary on "continuous discharge ratings" vs "pulse discharge ratings" of battery specs.

OHM'S LAW

14. Ohm's Law for Dummies (Vapers)
* My attempt at explaining Ohm's Law in layman terms and how it relates to vaping.

16. Explain it to the Dumb Noob: Ohm's Law Calculations
* As simple as it is to use, some people have a tough time grasping the concept. Warning: Includes graphic photos of mod explosions.

MECHANICAL MODS & REBUILDABLES

7. Information Resources for Your First RBA
* An essential read and reference guide for someone new to rebuilding coils. Includes a multitude of useful links on battery safety, mod safety, coil meters, coil building, and the differences in the three types of RBA's.

15. Inexpensive Mechanical Mod and RDA Setup
* A response to the frequently asked question on how to get into rebuildable atomizers with a mechanical mod inexpensively. Includes a list of commonly used tools and supplies for rebuilding and where to find them.

Someone who is beginning to get interested in rebuilding shouldn't get an Orchid. Dual coils are tricky. It is better to get something set up for single coils and master that, first. UNLESS--- I am on a limited budget, and run my Orchids as single coil devices on a regulated mod. I hope to be satisfied with this for quite a while, but my options are open.

Okay, thank you, will get that in mind. I just saw Youtube videos of doing the Orchid coil and seems fairly easy. Well I have absolutely zero experience in building, but a friend does and I will be moving to USA soon and I know vape shops teach you and such. What are good building kits?(I refer to as kits that come with screwdrivers and utensils to make your coils and wicks)

Might want to take a look at the Kayfun (clone) as well (slightly less expensive and has been around longer/more proven than the Orchid) It's an RTA ,which is what you are going for (also what I'm going for as well :) People I've talked to love them some Kayfun. I'm going for the Kayfun 1st, then if I'm bored or displeased I'll go for the orchid. If you go Kayfun, make sure it comes with the window so you can see how much juice you have in the ole res. Some Kayfuns (the lite ver) don't come with the window.

In terms of tools, really don't need anything special:

Tweezers, a good nail clipper, jewelers/eye glass repair kit screwdrivers/mini screwdriver set (good to practice till you find what kind of coil builds you like (smallest screwdriver I have is a 1mm) small pair needle-nose plyers, optional. Obviously some Kanthal wire as well as some cotton. An ohm meter/multi-meter will help unless you a god-damn prodigy like me :) I can tell the resistance of a coil by looking at it from across the room. Joking of course :) Let me know what you end up going with and how it works out for you. Happy Vaping.

....... prodigy lol:laugh: ! Thanks for replying :) I've seen the Kayfun around but what I don't like about it it's that it doesn't blow as much clouds :(. From what I've seen over the net the Orchid is the Kayfun killer lol. Isn't there anywhere on the Vape world where I can get a kit with all that? As I am an 18 year old and have no idea what to buy. What mod do you use?

What I use is called a pass-through (my avatar) It's an ego style battery with the battery removed then hardwired with a 5v - 2.5a wall adapter from an old router I had. Consistent vape every time. It's coupled with a aspire CE tank (28g kanthal) Very small liquid capacity (1.6ml) and at the same time very reliable tank. I also prefer re-building aspire heads/coils as they just work really well. Went with Kanger for a bit and noticed most of their tanks were ....e (fell apart and leaked alot) and their coils/heads are a flavor dead zone for me. Even the rubber grommet in the aspire (separates the power and negative leads on the coil) is better quality. I don't have a mod atm Had a really good 1300mah VV/VW ego style battery until some1 dropped and broke it. As for kits I don't really bother unless I happen to come across exactly what I'm looking for in 1. I just do my research figure out what I want then get it.

I am fairly new to mods and rebuilding, but I am not new to electrical or mechanical challenges, part of daily life as an aircraft mechanic. I bought an Orchid to try so I would not have to drip and drive. My first build was a not so successful attempt at a .8 coil with organic cotton wick. Little disappointed. After priming and filling with juice, I got about three good draws before I tasted cotton. My problem? Coil was a little hot, and I had put too much cotton in the juice channels. Tear down, rebuild with a .92 ohm coil, use much less cotton (just to the top of the juice channels) and...problem solved! The orchid hits like a champ! Little less flavor than a dripper but well worth the time to build. Still drip at home but my orchid is my travel option. It is not that hard to build but you have to watch your clearance on the chimney. Happy vaping.

I so wish they would make a two piece chimney.
