Hello all,

I suppose I'll start with some back story and get to where I am at now. I am 27 and started smoking when I was about 11 (Geez, not only does that make me feel old, but it's been a long time. Also, I'd kill my son if he started smoking next year when he's 11) I am not proud of it, but I digress. Childhood was rough in NY...I don't think I smoked to be cool, I think I smoked because I was stressed out! Lol. The more I watch my kids grow (and send them out of the area in which I am smoking gross cigarettes) makes me want to stop. I CAN stop. I have. My wife cannot. We are forcefully moving to vaping. She doesn't have a choice in the matter. We don't have long enough as it is, I don't need to end it early with lung cancer/etc.

My wife has a very addictive personality. Caffeine and cigarettes, both of which I can toss at any moment. When I see or smell her smoking, I want a cigarette. I am somewhat evolved as I do not get headaches from lack of caffeine or cigarettes or anything. I've never had a headache...if I can't have something, I just don't? It never affects me. I am not an excuse kinda guy. She, on the other hand, turns into your typical woman that wants something and wants it now. It's almost disturbing really. I look at it as a weakness, but I support it. I don't want to "deprive" my wife of cigarettes, as ridiculous as that sounds, so off to Vape land we go.

I bought a ProVari 2.5 in Black/Red with an Aspire Nautilus tank and a couple of juices from ProVape to get me started. I then ordered juice from Rip Trippers, cause, I mean, the guy is awesome. I support him and he (along with some others like Busardo (SP?) got me on the right track. I have no interest EVER in spending $300+ on JUST a unit/mod/whatever. Ever. It won't happen. As it is, I smoke somewhere around 4-8 cigs a day IF I bring them to work. If not, somewhere between 3-5. I am a social smoker. If I am talking, I have to smoke. When I am not talking, no smokey. I am a "go big or go home" kinda guy, so when I saw people talking about ProVari, I had to have it.

It still hasn't shipped yet, and my juice from Rip has..which is good because some of his juices need to steep (SEE, I did my research, dammit!) I am very anxious to get this show on the road. HERE are my questions that I really haven't found an answer to.

Let's say the average Pall Mall Menthol 100 (my cig) has 50 drags, what, if any, is the equivalent in vapes? I keep hearing all this "15 HOUR VAPE TIME ON THIS BATTERY"....soooo, 15 hours as in if you hit it for 5 seconds you now have 14 hours 59 minutes and 55 seconds left of vape time? Or like, 50 vapes an hour? No one has been clear on how long an 18650 ACTUALLY lasts.

I ordered 18MG juice from ProVape and 12MG juice from Rip just to test my levels. My questions revolve around vape time/use. So, if I smoke 10 cigs a day, which is roughly 8 mins each cigarette for a total of just over an hour, does anyone know how many mils I'd go through if I literally replaced my cigs with vape and that's it? The goal is to live longer AND save money...and I don't see me saving money when I am buying coils every 2 days and going through 10mils of juice a day between my wife and I.

We'll start there and evolve as the thread goes on, if it does. I'll continue reading and thanks in advance for anyone that wants to read my shenanigans and reply. What should I get my wife, also? Should I get her a ProVari as well? Should I get her a dripper? Any "pink" recommendations? Should I get her her own tank and just leave it home since I don't really need to smoke at work and just switch tanks when I come home? Lol. Thanks.

it really depends on the type of 18650 you bought the MAH rating and how much you will be vaping and at what voltage on your provari, it sort of seems as if i vape more but i pick it up hit it a few times and am good. I dont sit there for 5-6 minutes and smoke it like i would a cigarette until it is finished. my vtc5's use to last a while in my vamo maybe more than a day and i chain vape. hope this help and happy vaping man i hope it helps you and your wife off the stinkies!

Hello and Welcome!

I won't be much help as far as answering your questions except to say that everyone is different and what you do when you start vaping will change after awhile. Your tastes will change and your vaping frequency will also change. Many people tend to vape more often than they smoked because it's more convenient than smoking YMMV.

Hello b0r0b,

Welcome to ECF and congrats on kicking ash aside. Your questions are hard to answer because they mostly depend on personal use; which something you'll have gauge once you start vaping. The reason it's hard to give a clear answer on how long and 18650 last is because there are lots of variables that can determine that.
A few Examples:
How often one vapes
What is the resistance of the coil
How high of voltage/wattage are you pushing to the coils
The same goes for how long e-liq will last. When most people start vaping they will usually do it more than they actually smoked. One reason for this is that your body is also adjusting to not having all the other toxins that come along with analogs. Over time you'll cut back, but again it's personal preference. Everyone adjust differently so it's difficult to give you exact times and amounts. You will know when you're have satisfied your nic craving.

WELCOME TO ECF! :) :vapor:

I use a Provari mini in 18500 (slightly smaller than 18650) mode and a Kayfun Lite + V2 rebuildable atomizer with a 2 ohm coil. I vape approximately 2 ml's of 24 mg liquid per day. The 18500 battery lasts me about 3 ml's of liquid, so about a day and a 1/2.

I was a pack a day full flavored cigarette smoker for 37 yrs (the last 3ish yrs of that 1/2 cigs, 1/2 vape). In my case, 2 ml's of 24 mg liquid = 20 cigs. That should give you the info you need to make a guesstimate on your possible liquid amount.

On the Provari for your wife (you are a good husband for just thinking about it :)), you should talk to her about the size she wants. I like my mini, but it is a bit heavy, and at least twice the width of an ego style battery. I use Evod batteries with mini T3S's at work, this size might work better for her to start. They work really well, wherever I go.

Good to know! Based on that info, I should be good on juice and coils. I eventually want to be able to make my own coils instead of "re-upping" on it like juice every month or whatever it ends up being. Hopefully I can find a rebuildable friendly Tank that gets as much praise as I've read on the Nautilus. Apparently they have "new" coils they just came out with that people are going crazy over, so hopefully they last for me. I'm still not sure what to get my wife. She definitely needs something like the ProVari since she smokes more than I do so I don't want to skimp on her rig.

Indeed, "your mileage may vary" is a mantra. Nonetheless, here's a handy tool:

Battery drain | Steam Engine | free vaping calculators

I like math, so I'll hazard some back-of-the-envelope calculations that are probably in the right ballpark.

This is a battery drain calculator. I have no idea at what setting you'll end up running the Provari, but you can expect roughly 1 hour of usage. Meaning, 1 hour of holding the button down; if these are 5 second hits, that would translate to over 700 drags (I can also assure you that there significantly fewer than 50 drags in a 100 cig; at 8 min per cig, that'd be a hit every 10 seconds, which sounds pretty extreme. I'd estimate 20ish drags max). Could last a week, if you don't hit the thing much, or 12 hours, if you vape like crazy) from a 2100 mAh battery. The mAh rating is really what determines how long the battery can last; the 18650 determines the physical dimensions of the battery. For yourself, I'd imagine 2100 mAh will last 1-2+ days, assuming you vape as little as you smoke. For your wife, I'd imagine .75-1.5 days to be conservative. I'd also make sure there is always a spare around.

As far as the liquid goes, this is where the mileage really varies. Lots and lots of things affect how much liquid your devices goes through, not the least of which is - surprise - usage. I vape like crazy, but on a less-than-stellar device; maybe I'd vape less with a nicer set-up like your own. Anyway, I think 30 mL of liquid per week is a pretty comfortable amount for a hardcore smoker to stay under when first becoming smoke-free. I wouldn't sweat the start-up costs too much (if they don't break the bank), provided you and the Mrs. really do quit smoking. As you vape, you'll really get a feel for the costs associated, and change usage patterns. Start-up devices aside, liquid purchases will certainly be cheaper than smoking if you buy larger bottles/amounts at a discount.

That said, mixing your own liquid can be significantly cheaper; like $2.00 per 30 mL of juice. There's a thread somewhere for a "dollar a day" group of folks who are all about vaping on the cheap.

Welcome to the forum, and thanks for letting me indulge in some speculative number-crunching! I'm sure a dozen posts have happened while I thought about this...

VERY informative, thank you for taking the time to write this up! I am anxiously awaiting the delivery of the mod. That's the only downside to the Provari right now, shipping time! It still hasn't shipped :/
