So my organic cotton balls arrived today so I decided to try it out with a 1.8 ohm micro coil (28 AWG, ~12 wraps), Built the coil and attached it to my igo-w then fed the cotton through, I made sure it was pretty snug in there. Then I dripped like I use to and waited a minute or so and took a drag. The taste is pretty much impossible to describe, and for clarification, No hot legs or hot spots.

I tried it multiple times and in multiple ways, I thought the cotton wasn't making any good contact to the kanthal so I rolled up some cotton and I coiled right onto it as tight as possible. Same result again so... I ended up going back to silica since this is just not working at all.

Here's the cotton I used:
Swisspers Organic Triple Size Cotton Balls | drugstore.com

I've seen pbusardo, dimitri and several others using this one:
Studio 35 Organic Cotton Balls | drugstore.com

But after looking into it, its basically the same so yea.

I was thinking as well that people boil it, So I asked dimitri on youtube what he did with his organic and he didn't boil it. So I didn't bother boiling it.

Too excited to let this go so I really need to know what the hell it is I'm doing wrong?

Well with the cotton you don't want it as tight as you would silica. It needs a little tiny bit of room because once the juice gets into the cotton the cotton expands.

Did it have good vapor production or was it the taste specifically that was the problem?

It wasn't really as tight as silica but the last try it was extremely tight. The vapor production was ok I guess but it was less than with silica. So yea it's the taste that's really being the issue.

Keep your cotton light and airy. Do not keep it tight. When you first use the device, try to use 3.5v first and then edge it up in volts after a few minutes.

It seems that you are burning the cotton, which is not saturated enough, (can't get saturation because it it too tight).

It was light and airy at first then as I built more coils I tighteen it more and more. And I did not burn it, it was saturated enough :p

I think you might be using to much cotton. Less is better. You just want enough to pull through easily but still filling the coil. Cotton expands when it gets soaked up so you may be choking the coil. Especially on the one you wrapped as tight as you could. I'll bet that was a real nasty hit! Try less & see how it goes.

Yes, the above comments are correct. The cotton needs room to wick. If it's too tight, your burning the cotton (which does taste HORRIBLE).

if that would be the case wouldn't the cotton be black or miss colored ? I made sure after removing it to check for that and there was no miss coloring going on what's so ever.

Hmm, Well you are correct sir, the one that was wrapped up really tight really bummed me out... Almost puked lol.
I know that cotton expands etc etc but it felt like I was using an extremely low amount of cotton on the first try, it was really lose but still snug enough to make contact.

I tried the same with sterilized rolled cotton from CVS - youtude dude didnt boil it and used a whiff of cotton - doesnt work for my kanger coils - i boil to get rid of the nasty cottony taste and i use enough cotton to make sure is is snug in the coil - less cotton = leaks/drips.....

I could try boiling a few balls... Wouldn't hurt right?

+1 for sterile cotton > "organic" cotton.

I've been using sterile and loving it, my friend bought some organic and asked me to build him a coil. He boiled (twice) and rinsed. FYI, all the reviews I've seen have specified to use distilled water since tap water can leave heavy minerals on your cotton that will greatly effect the flavor.

anyway, got everything built and guess what? our flavors tasted exactly the same. I, using sterile, had none of the prep work of "organic" with all of the flavor, so needless to say I was a happy camper.

Oh right... U need to use distilled water when boiling it... Well there goes that.

Anyways I will build a new coil the first thing tomorrow and use less cotton.

Thanks folks!

Honestly I have not purchased any cotton as I've been using Q-tip or some cotton left over from my aspirin bottle. Pretty sure they are both sterile. I have not had any weird taste and they work just fine but sooner or later I need to pick some up from CVS, I just have to remember to.
I'd be weary of using cotton from medicine bottles without boiling, because I'm sure they pick up residual medicine from the pills. I'm sure aspirin wouldn't hurt, but who knows...
