Hurricane Irene is on it's way. All of the cities around me are issuing mandatory evacuations for the low lying areas. Area stores have been wiped clean - there isn't water or batteries to be found anywhere! Got prepared as best I can; all my V4L batteries are charged, just in case we lose power. Now we just wait. It's gonna hit here in the early a.m. and it will be here all day. Pray that those of us in Irenes way will get thru it with minimal damage and no loss of life.

Good luck K9Luvr - I'll be praying for you, and please do the same for us as it's coming at us next (New England). Went out today to get my solar powered charger because they're talking about us losing power for days. All my V4L batteries are charged or will be by Saturday night, and we're stocked with water, non perishable essentials and batteries just in case. Stay safe!

Beachlover, yea, at least now it's a cat 1; I think the last one to hit us was a cat 1, too, but I'm not sure. Ya'll will probably have more water damage than I will but my friends who live in Poquoson had to evacuate, cuz they're gonna shut the power down to the whole city at 10 tonight. During the last nor'easter Poquoson flooded, and all those homes with power still on had lots of electrical fires, etc, so the city is being proactive by turning the power off. Maybe it won't be as bad as all the newscasters are saying.

Morandir, sounds like you're ready. I don't have as many batts as you do, and I think I'll use my dogs to protect me from possible looters ;-)

K9Luvr...Hampton has a lot of low lying areas also...All of Hampton Roads is so prone to flooding because we are surrounded by water of some kind. If not the ocean or the bay then by rivers running off the bay. Hope you manage to stay dry. I'm pretty sure I will stay dry...just won't be able to get out of the neighborhood. I think they are still calling for 11 inches or so of rain in both of our areas and then with high tide there is no getting out of it.

yall stay safe ,even my gf outside of boston says they are preparing today for this weekend .

We did too waylon...took the canopy off the gazebo, tied all the chairs to the railings on the deck, turned the glass top table upside down, all empty barrels are in the shed, got extra water but didn't buy food. Thanks to my daughter's canceled baby shower I have 5 lbs of cheeses, pepperoni, several boxes of cracker, a case of raspberry, peach & lemon Iced Tea, gigantic bags of potatoe chips, tortelini for pasta salad w/ strawberry chardonnay vinegarette (gonna cook that in case the power goes out).
If anybody wants to come have a party in the dark come on over ...just watch out for falling trees. By Sunday nite we should be able to walk down to the harbor & watch the idiots run the cat-walk below the sea wall railing
I'm thinking of all of you getting the cat1 we're hopefully being downgraded to tropical storm...this Irene chick is a PITA!

Beachlover, luckily I'm in the North end of Hampton so my area won't flood, but my parents home is in one of the evacuated areas and it will probably end up will water in the house on the 1st floor. Had lots of water damage during Isabel. Stay safe.

Anita, thanx for your prayers. Lots of us here in harms way can use all the prayers we can get. We're not as used to this as ya'll are in FLA.

Nana, no, both of my parents are deceased, but one of my younger brothers lives in the house now. He didn't evacuate because he wants to be there to do whatever he can when it starts to flood. He's already moved most of the furniture to the upper stories; he's kinda stubborn, probably will end up being stuck in the house for a few days, or at least until the water recedes. The house is on the bank of the Little Back River, and it always floods.

I hope it doesn't get too flooded K9Luvr. The worse my house has gotten is the end of the driveway and I hope it is that way this time. It seems before Isabelle we had a lot of rain before hand...this time I thnk it has been dryer but if your brothers house is prone to flooding we can just pray. My son is in Hampton with a waterway (don't know if it even has a name) right behind their house but last time it only came up in their backyard and not in their house.

Rivers crest above their banks around here often in the Spring..pretty scary. I hope your brother is ok through this &you as well .>>> They just interupted on TV giving us on the North Shore a Tropical Storm Watch...not good. I was hoping for just a warning...a Watch means very high winds. The old trees across the street from us are gonna sway towards our house & give me palpitations. I think I'll just go to bed.
Good luck tomorrow, hang on tight, I'm thinkin' of ya
