WOO-HOO!

Got the approval (finally!!) today for our event! Mark your calendars for Saturday, March 20th, 2010 in Bienville Square Downtown Mobile, AL

Sponsored By CASAA : The Consumer Advocates for Smoke-Free Alternatives Association
Benefits to be provided to the Make-A-Wish Foundation and local charities

I don't have any pull with the airlines, but I'll work on HUGE discounts for hotels in the area for anyone who thinks they might be able to come down for the day long event. It's the first really major public event for the e-cig community and can be an incredible positive PR piece.

For anyone who needs an excuse to make it a family mini-vacation

bienvillesquare03.jpg

USS Alabama and Pensacola Blue Angels Navy Air Museum
Tons of Civil War history and walking tours
Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail
20 minutes from the casinos (Hard Rock, Beau Rivage, Wind Creek etc.)
2 hrs from New Orleans
30 minutes from the beaches (yes, it's still 80 degrees here until February)
CASAA HQ (at least temporarily) is located right across from the square
Dozens of downtown restaurants and bars - Mobile is a VERY pro-ecig community

The folks at Make-A-Wish are involved in a benefit and we have free advertising from 93.1 WHIL and 92 WZEW as well as WKRG Channel 5

Gr8dane, as our officially unofficial cruise director (sitting in for Julie McCoy), can you check on package deals for March? I've also asked PCH Resorts to put together room and golfing packages (Robert Trent Jones Trail) for the Marriot Grand Hotel and Battlehouse, but will put together a list of other local hotels and discounts as we get closer to our date.

That's great news and you deserve a huge CONGRATULATIONS, Webby.

Unfortunately, I was afraid this conflict was going to happen, and as I'm already locked in for the East Coast Meet on the 13th, not sure how able I would be to travel to your neck of the woods to participate. But I do hope it is a rousing success, as I'm sure it will be from the sounds of it!

Well understood, Spike and I looked for alternative dates but we'd both gotten so far in the paperwork processes that it would have been a mess to stop either one. Hopefully we can arrange these all over the country (and better time them as the groups all work better with each other) I'd like to have these all over so visiting a concert or meet is a viable option for people no matter where they live.

Well shoot...this is local! I'll be there! If anyone has questions about Mobile PM me! I love this town and am a headhunter so I bring folks here for a living.

Great job!

I met today with Greg Cyprian, the Director of Events for the City of Mobile and he is VERY excited about the event. We have the full support of many Downtown merchants and this is looking like a GREAT opportunity.

CASAA's intention is first and foremost to use this event as a means of promoting public awareness and support of alternatives to smoking and harm reduction methods. Although we'd love for this to generate tons of money, our commitment is to make this a FREE event and help in any way possible to get folks to come out and meet one another.

Please bookmark this thread and www.CASAA.org check back often!

Web,

My old Friend, how about some good bands showing up for the event--maybe the Stones, Zepplin, Tull, and something a little more mellow like the Eagles and Bread. Add a little Kenny G and we will be all set!!

Well we did it!
We had to have had at least 5000 people come through the park and check out the booths, inflatable jumping attractions, food booths and even Mobiles minor league baseball team the Bay Bears brought out a batting cage. Glowing LEDS were everywhere.

Everybody owes Webby and Mrs. Webby a HUGE thank you for all the work they did, without them this would not have happened.

Sorry webby, your Gumbo came in 4th place. I thought it was awesome though. Hard to beat the winning entry though, with all the seafood they chunked in it. Should have had a rule or a different category.

You could not have ordered a better day from a catalog. The weather was warm and became nice and sunny in the afternoon. Not a drop of rain. And the park is beautiful with a fountain, green grass and stately oaks.

We had the best bands that we could have asked for. We started out with the excentrix (now the Rejects) who played enough variety for everybody, songs we all knew the words to. Thanks guys, you helped make this a success.

We had folks dancing from 3 to 80+.

Bloody98 had a personal issue but Mark their lead guitarist made it work by inviting a touring rock ban the "KGB" straight of the road to cover for the missing member.
They absolutely blew the doors off the joint!
And Mark coordinated the bands and ran sound for all of them to. Thank you Mark.

The closing band was a professional jazz trio, the soft soothing melodies took us to close. A great way to wind down from all the work that was put into the event.

We did have some ECF members from Florida show up, thank you ladies.
The only thing that could have made this better would be to have seen all you there too, Hopefully next time. And after the success of this event I'm sure there will be.

Thanks for the pictures BooChips, Shows the other members what they missed. LOL.

Wanted to talk some more to you at the get together but you slipped away too soon.
Glad you could make it, I enjoyed comparing mods with you.
Yea we slipped away to the Mardi Gras Museum next door...it was great.
We had a good time all weekend. Mobile is a really nice city and we had a fantastic room at the Hampton.
