So, I am not sure about everyone here but, I tend to read a lot. I also like to read the books that my daughter reads. Just like I watch her TV shows with her, no matter how annoying they can be. I mostly do this because it give us more to talk about and helps close the generation gap. I also find that many of the books that we read, we both enjoy.

So, for Christmas, I got a NookColor ereader as a gift and got Abi, the worlds most wonderful 11-year-old, the Cruz Reader. Even though I have my NookColor rooted and over-clocked and it makes a great tablet, I use it for reading more than anything else. At least, once I got over using it as a cool tablet. :)

Anyway, I am looking for some good books that we would both enjoy. We are both pretty big readers (although Abi isn't done with the Percy Jackson series yet).

Just to give you an idea of what we (mostly me) have read since getting our ereaders, here are the books that were read in January.

Percy Jackson & The Olympians: (Series 1) - Rick Riordan
The Lightning Thief
The Sea Of Monsters
The Titans Curse
The Battle Of The Labyrinth
The Last Olympian

The Heroes Of Olympus: (Series 2) - Rick Riordan
The Lost Hero
next book (Son Of Neptune) due out 10/2011

Witch & Wizard Series: - James Patterson
Witch & Wizard
The Gift
next book (The Fire) due out 12/11

Lorien Legacies: - Pittacus Lore
I Am Number Four
next book (The Power Of Six) due out 8/11

So, I would like to find something like these series for us to read and I was wondering what my fellow FSUSA junkies and ECF'ers are reading with their kids. Since the Percy Jackson movie, only loosely being based on the books -- didn't ruin the books for us, we hope the same can be said for I Am Number Four, which I can already tell will suck due to the cast. Either way, we have enjoyed all the books. She has already read the Harry Potter and Twilight series so, those are out. I also already have the Inkheart series (Inkheart, Inkspell and Inkdeath) planned to read.

I try not to have her read suspense or murder type novels. I have a hard enough time getting her to sleep at night. 8-o

The Witch & Wizard books are very good. Have you read them?

Her suspense and murder type novels are excellent! If you've not read Greg Iles, definitely do so. He writes very well.

No, I've not read the Witch & Wizard books. I'll add them to my "must buy books" spreadsheet.

I like the Percy Jackson and the new Olympus series because they are backed on Greek and Roman mythology. The Witch & Wizard series are based on magic. I am Number Four is based on aliens with powers. When books like that get into their dark moments, they are unrealistically dark, so Abi doesn't feel like she needs to look over her shoulder. As log as the book are "darkly detached" like that, I am more than happy to add them to our reading list.

For those of you who don't read with your kids, it is a lot of fun. I read a bit faster so Abi will ask me questions about the stories. I will answer the ones that don't spoil the book. It is a great way to keep conversation going.

you can try the lord of the rings series i remember all the books being good, especially reading them again when the movies came out

I've already read those many times. Great suggestion though. Even though I am looking for newer series to read, those never get old. Can you tell that I am a big fan of Tolkien?

Have you read any Anne McCaffery books? I loved the Crystal Singer series!! And there's always her Dragonriders of Pern series. Fabulous fantasy! They get my votes for having strong female characters. :thumb:

(currently reading Judas Unchained on my Nook classic)

Thank you for the suggestions. I have heard of the Dragon Riders of Pern series. Never read them. I will have to get her books. Thanks again.

well if suspense is out, then don't go near James Rollins....once I start one, I can't put in down..but if your interested stay away from Sandstorm (didn't care for that one) but the rest are good.

That sounds like an author I would like. I'll do a google search and order some of his books.

just finished a real long book called "My First Impressions of the Banana Laffy Taffy and Pepsii Juices" by Ab Domen. Holy Q-hit. That was a long book. He knows lots of words.

Just when I was about to say this is one thread you wouldn't hijack.
