As some of you may remember, Reggie the Poodle was dx'd a few months back with Cushing's Disease. He is at peace in doggie Heaven now.

He went into respiratory failure this morning and died at 7am. I sat with him and talked to him during his last hour.

My MIL, Katie is having him cremated so that we can bury him at home for her.

Oh, Bov.

I am so sad to hear this; I am glad you were there for him, comforting and talking to him.

My heart hurts for you and for Reggie - although I know Reggie is at peace; being the one left behind to carry the grief is so hard.

Big hugs and tears for you, with you, my dear friend.

Bovina, sad day sweetie. I'm so sorry. I've been there more than a few times myself. I had a rescue named Hobbes a few years back that had lung cancer. We had decided that he had suffered enough and took him into the vet for some mercy. He passed a few seconds before the vet came into the room to prep him. We knew it was his time but it still hurt. Losing a friend is never easy.

So sorry to hear of your loss. Its hard to lose any loved one. Regardless of species. I think its important for them to have someone they loved be there with them when the time comes. I've been there many times, and its never easy, but knowing I was there for them when they needed me was a comfort.
When the time comes, you'll be able to offer just as much love to the next soul that needs it.

Debb my heart goes out to you and Jackie and Reggie.

I found this from another member ~

Just this side of Heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

Thank you everyone. Wharf, that was very touching {{{hugs}}}

It felt lonely getting up this morning and not having Reggie greet me at the bottom of the stairs. Not nearly as hard for me than for my MIL tho :( My fur kid Chase snuggled with my MIL in her recliner last night, and it was sweet to see them together.

He was consoling her. As they say, animals are sensitive to that sort of thing.
