I currently have a Vamo V3 as my most advanced mod. I like it and have no complaints but wanted to try a box mod just for fun. Treat myself to something different for the holidays. I'm leaning towards the VTR as I already have plenty of 18650 batteries but it is a bit more expensive. I also kind of like how the tank sits in the VTR...less chance of putting too much pressure on the tank and bending the 510 connection. Couple of questions...

1.) How hard is it to replace the battery in the VTR. From the picture it is either as easy as moving a switch that pops open a flap on the bottom to replace the battery...or it looks like I may have to unscrew 4 screws to get the battery in. I wouldn't want to mess with 4 screws each time.

2.) On the MVP or other mods that don't allow replacement batteries...has anyone taken one of these apart after the battery quits charging? Are they truly not replaceable batteries; if not, what kind of battery would you use to replace it. Guess I'm wondering if it's more like an 18xxx battery or if it's some type of proprietary battery similar to a cell phone battery.

3.) Are there any box mods similar to the VTR that have a "recessed" tank holder that has replaceable rechargeable batteries but also can be charged by USB and also have an output power supply similar to the MVP...kind of a combination of all the good features from both of those? Ohh and VW would be a major plus for me. The VTR has it but the MVP doesn't.

Price is kind of important but I can weigh that out after the suggestions come in.

EDIT:
Ohh and as for the MVP does it have some sort of circuitry in it that does a trickle charge at 80% and then shuts it off at 100%? Since I'm looking for a combination of the MVP and VTR that uses replaceable batteries but can still charge from box itself I think that would be kind of important?

Another Edit:
Just watched a review on MVP...an ohm reader would also be nice...am I getting nit picky now?

Yes they can't be replaced. Saw a picture of a MVP2 taken apart and the battery looks as if if it's a plastic sack.

1) Yep just slide the switch, door pops open, take out battery, put in new battery, close door. No Screws.

2) Believe the mvp uses a battery similar to a laptop but smaller, and no its not replaceable, but there are people who report their MVP's going strong after well over a year. @$40 for an MVP2, even 1 unit a year would be pretty reasonable.

3)The MVP 2 added VW, so it does have it, although its not as accurate or precise in its settings, versus VV mode.

Either way at $40 for an MVP or $80 for a VTR, you really cant go wrong.

In regards to #3 since the MPV 2 has VW I assume the video I watched was dated and it must have an ohm reader as well if has VW? So looks like MVP has everything I want except for the "recessed" tank slot and the replaceable batteries...preferably 18650 but won't nit pick on the size ;) know of anything that matches that description...now I may be nit picking a bit here but if I'm gonna buy a box mod I might as well try and get everything I'm looking for all in one :)

Yep VV, VW, Ohm meter, Battery voltage, and puff counter. Phils videos are always long but they generally address everything, top to bottom.

Just got my VTR yesterday. The battery door opens by sliding the latch button on the bottom. Easy peasy! No undoing screws. You must remove the battery to recharge.

PBusardo has an extensive video review. Just google PBusardo VTR or search on Youtube and you'll find it.

It is heavy! This thing is built like a brick! Personally I like it!

Don't care for the non-replaceable battery on the MVP

I feel the same way...even if I get a year of use out it it still leaves you with the gut feeling of do I really just throw this away now?

People keep posting on they like their VTR or MVP; which is fine ;) but was really hoping to find a box mod with the good things in both combined into one. Maybe it doesn't exist yet?

Replaceable or non-replaceable the industry standard estimated lifetime for Li-on batteries is 300 charge cycles. In practice I have never seen an Li-ion go that many charge cycles before showing serious loss in capacity. I figure 150-200 cycles before changing out Li-ions. Of course this value will vary with Li-ion battery chemistry and makes but my gut feeling is that 300 charge cycles is way optimistic.

Using replaceable batteries saves money if the rig is designed to outlast the battery.

My ideal mod would be a VTR with a 22mm ring that used a Nivel Chip. Until that point I will have to get by with a Semovar and a VTR and hope they merge in my memory as I get older.

Im gonna hold out to see if the price of the VTR drops more. I know when it first came out it was like 120 and now you can find it for 80. I wouldn't mind paying like 60 for it but no more then that.

Does anyone know if you can use a evod or a T3 without that crazy adapter they have? I know that you can use a IBtanked tank on it and a Protank 2 will fit down in it.

I have both the MVP (v1) and VTR. I prefer the VTR. I like the ability to change batteries. I also like the ability to have a recessed tank. I only use carto tanks, and the IBTanked 19mm XL tank works well. I got mine for $80 on the ECF classified, and then I got another one for $80 from a Black Friday sale. The 2nd one was the green. I can't touch it right now as it's frozen solid sitting outside in 13 degree weather until I got home from work.
