As most of you know, I just started with DIY. Actually, I just got started with vaping as a whole (started out with minis back a month or so ago, and just bought my first pv about a week ago). Since then, I've been on an accessory/supply/flavor frenzy. I swear, I didn't plan on sinking this much money into it. However, I think that in the long run, it will be worth it. After I finally settle on what I can vape flavor-wise, I shouldn't need to do as much buying.

Currently, I have numerous flavors that I simply don't think I'm going to like. From what mixing and testing I've done so far, I've found that I just don't like sweet flavors. Butterscotch, toffee, cherry, none of those have been satisfactory for longer than the first couple hits. After that, they seem to turn sour to me, leaving a horrible aftertaste, almost sickening. The only thing I've been able to vape is a menthol tobacco flavor I bought from RTS. I smoked menthol cigs for years.

The following is a list of the flavors I have right now. More is on the way, though they are strictly tobacco and complementary flavors.

This is what I have coming:

RY4 Double Flavor - 4 oz - Perfume Apprentice
Menthol Crystals - 1 oz - Perfume Apprentice
Hazelnut Flavor - 4 oz - Perfume Apprentice (The small hint of nutty flavor that is in my current menthol tobacco flavor is extremely appealing. I want to play with it.)

Menthol Flavor - 4 oz - Seedman
Commercial Cigarette Flavor - 4 oz - Seedman
Honey Flavor - 4 oz - Seedman
(The above Seedman's are tobacco flavors)

I'm fairly sure that I will be able to put all these previous flavors to good use. It's the following that I'm worried about. These are all those I ordered before knowing that sweet flavors probably aren't my thing:

English Toffee (TFA) - 30 ml bottle,
Strawberries & Cream (TFA) - 30 ml
French Vanilla (TFA) - 120 ml
Butterscotch (TFA) - 120 ml
Whipped Cream Flavor (TFA) - 30 ml
Black Cherry (TFA) - 120 ml
Pineapple Flavor (TFA) - 120 ml
Ripe Bananna Flavor (TFA) - 120 ml
Coconut (concentrated) Flavor (TFA) - 120 ml
Cotton Candy Flavor (TFA) - 120 ml
Cheese Cake from DIY Flavorshack (These from DIY Flavorshack came with a kit I ordered. Didn't order them separately.)
Poundcake from DIY Flavorshack
Holy Vanilla from DIY Flavorshack
Butterscotch from DIY Flavorshack
Sugar Cookie from DIY Flavorshack
Vanilla Minkshake from DIY Flavorshack
English Toffee from DIY Flavorshack

I -might- be able to use these:

Spearmint Flavor (TFA) - 120 ml
Creame de Menthe Flavor (TFA) - 120 ml

I know I made a mistake by buying larger quantities of flavors. I figured I'd be saving in the long run with shipping if I just bought all I could with less separate orders. Really, who doesn't like vanilla or butterscotch?! Apparently I don't when vaping. Either that or I'm mixing nearly everything wrong.

The point of this thread. Does anyone have any suggestions how to include any of the sweet flavors into tobacco mixes without killing it? I seriously don't want to end up having to throw all this away because I never use it.

Actually with the exception of the strawberry & cream and the cheesecake, all those flavors have a spot in tobacco mixes. Most in butterfly quantities, but still have a use.

Also if a sweet goes sour after a few vapes it could very well be a mixing problem, but I'd say go the direction that appeals to you at the time and don't spend time chasing something that was appealing. (Maybe that's why I chase more recipes than I complete though...)

Just to rule out mixing supplies being the culprit for bad tasting recipes...

US Gallon Vegetable Glycerin USP Kosher certified for Passover from RTS Vapes, expires 1/27/15
US Gallon Propylene Glycol USP Kosher certified for Passover from RTS Vapes, expires 1/27/15
1000 ml of 60 mg Nicotine Liquid (6.0% Flavorless Nicotine Mixed with 100% Propylene Glycol USP) from RTS Vapes, expires 1/2/14

These are all right, correct?

I've been mixing with mostly VG base: usually around 70 to 80% VG and the rest PG. Today, I mixed one with 70/30% PG/VG just to test out a more PG mix. It did seem to taste a little better than the VG.

I'm this |--| close to breaking down and buying something premixed just to see if all vape recipes taste this bad to me, or if it's just my own clumsy attempts, heh.

Try adding 4% English Tobacco to your English toffee and letting it steep for 10 days

English Tobacco [tfa] 4%
EM 5%
Caramel 5%
English Toffee 2%

Yummy

Of course, youwill have to adjust for the fact that you are using premade English Toffee and I don't know what you already have in it.

Wow holy flavoring batman, that IS a lot.

Once you find out that the VG/PG you are vaping is alright to you, then you can begin on your journey. I personally find tobacco and vanilla vapes take a bit longer to steep than any of the others. Fruits the least of all but all mine get the 3-4 + week steeping before my husband gets to them. (I still have mixes from christmas he hasn't touched yet).

Go EASY on the mixes. As The great Flavor Guru just said Butterfly Fart amounts to begin with.

For your future purchases you may want to buy smaller amounts. Yes you save more in the long run by the larger quantities IF its a flavor you will stick with. But since you are a new to this your tastebuds are still on their own healing journey and nothing you taste now will be as nice as when your tastebuds are fully healed.

I haven't really steeped anything past two days. I've been anxious to stop smoking and the longer it takes for me to be able to vape anything, the longer I will smoke, heh.

I found a thread about speeding up steeping by using an ultrasonic cleaner. The menthol tobacco recipe I like so much is currently steeping in it, has been since yesterday. The guy tested a recipe that usually requires two weeks to steep. He said that it took two days with the cleaner. Hopefully, this will help!

Heh, I'm covered in the bottle department. Amazon has some pretty good deals on 12 count, 2 and 4 oz, glass bottles with droppers included. I plan to go DIY crazy on tobacco recipes. The rest are starting to tick me off.

You really do need an Ultrasonic Jewelry Cleaner for steeping if your committed to tobacco flavors. Check out these threads:

"Patience young grasshopper" :) if I may quote Pat Morita from a long time ago, in Karate Kid lol

You have alot of great flavors and do not, at this point, eliminate anything!

Most of my DIY 'recipes' need lots of steeping before the flavors meld.
It takes many months of trial and error too.
Use very small percentages to start with, let them sit a few days and add a tiny bit more, if necessary, but most of the time too much flavor kills it.

Many tobacco flavors need a month of steeping before they taste right!

In fact even a simple non-tobacco flavor like Honey benefits from steeping a month! (I made a big batch using 2% honey in my VG nic base, let it steep a few weeks and add the honey to alot of flavors later.)

Good luck!
... and when you mix up stuff that doesn't taste right today, put it on a shelf and come back to it n a few weeks and see if you notice a difference!:)

Hi mmudder,
Like me, the one advantage you have is the menthol. Very few flavors i like on their own, but add menthol and its good. Just be careful, menthol can be strong. Ive made recipes from .5% to 10% menthol - but for me 10% is way too strong. .5% to 2% works best for me.
Ive had good luck with Peach, Butterscotch and vanilla mixed with different tobacco and menthol.
