If you haven't cleaned it since you received it then I agree that all it needs is a simple cleaning. The part of the cleaning that makes the most noticeable difference in performance is sanding down the brass contact points. The brass will tarnish over time; that's just how it is. So sanding off that layer of tarnish will ensure optimal contact with the battery. I use 180 and 240 grit sand paper. Also, applying Noalox after sanding will help in minimizing the tarnish buildup. David recommends weekly cleaning, but I probably only do it every other week.

The AW switch is meant for use with the IMR batteries. The AW switch is all brass.
