I posted in this thread that I was starting to get mouth sores and thought it might be the citrus vapes...well I'm now convinced it had nothing to do with that.

I really think the problem was the new toothpaste I started using. I had been given Crest whitening toothpaste in the summer. After I started using this stuff is when my problems began. I stopped using it three weeks ago. I am using the same vapes that were bothering me and now I am having no issues at all. Weird!

Oh, dear lady. You got some of the Crest with the blue sharp beads in it. Crest is recalling many of their toothpastes due to severe gum issues and many dentists are finding these blue beads under the gumline causing a separation between gum and teeth which allows food particles to enter, building bacteria and causing infection.

Here is an article which will explain better and includes a list of which Crest toothpastes contain the beads: Crest toothpaste embeds plastic in our gums

I just read that article and quite a few of the comments. I could have written some of those comments, it's exactly what was happening to me. I'm stunned. I wasn't aware of this. Wow!

Well, I learned two things today thanks to this thread...not liking either of them! ;)

I just googled this. I never knew it was manufactured from mold. I just figured it was from fruit. Learned something new!

I don't know why they don't require an allergy warning on things manufactured with citric acid. Soooooo many people suffer from mold allergies and in turn, lots of food allergies. I'm sure they are related.

That kind of explains a lot for me. I hate anything with citric acid in it and have a crazy allergy to black mold. I was having a black mold reaction at the studio and kept saying we had a black mold problem which no one could find so they just wrote me off as crazy. Then a section of the back wall came down due to the rot and there was nothing but black mold everywhere.

They were all so apologetic and I've never seen city work so fast to take care of it...

LOL!
Could you imagine inhaling the stuff and having it coat your lungs? I think the "If you're allergic to anything, please assume this liquid contains it." statement should be a good save there. But sooooo many people don't know. It's insane to me.
"Let's process citric acid from black mold and put it in EVERYTHING! The best part is we won't have to tell anyone! Especially people allergic to mold!"
It makes you wonder what we actually eat.

this is why I'm thankful to live in an area with farms and butchers, regional chain grocery stores (Hannaford).. stopped intentionally buying crap a few years ago- made a significant difference for all of us!

eta: sorry you went through all that, and due to a toothpaste! paste is something I DIY- coconut oil, baking soda and peppermint oil. took some getting used to, but it's awesome.

DIY toothpaste, eh? Your recipe sounds pretty interesting. How do you make it? Just mix that stuff together, or what?

Josh, make sure you use Peppermint oil from the food spices aisle in your local grocery or e-liquid flavoring. Many other peppermint essential oils are not meant for internal use.

I make something similar using e-liquid flavoring peppermint, spearmint, baking soda and VG. I am using water for a wetting agent for daily use, with once a week peroxide, but I will give the coconut oil a try.

I'm assuming that's just a sweetener, right? Doesn't affect the teeth-cleany portion of toothpaste?

Thank you! I probably would have purchased the wrong kind. I am not a clever man.

Right........ I believe this, like I believe Clark is going to send me 500ml of Katy's Virus for free :)

Stevia is just a sweetener. Imparts nothing towards the effectiveness.

Haha, well thank you. I'm glad someone thinks I'm clever. :p

And thank you for answering my question. I assumed it was just for taste, but thank you for confirming. I may have to try me some homemade toofpaste.

Works to polish ceramic stovetops and most countertop surfaces, too.

Another two weeks have passed. I've vaped the flavors that we're giving me trouble before...not a single issue! Yay!

I am very grateful for the information given in this thread. Thank you all!
