Hello

I just built 2 Ss316l, 3mm diameter, 30gwa, 0.75 ohm, 7 wraps. Since it is a dual coil setup it's actually 0.37 ohm.

My target was to get a fast ramp up. It is indeed fast. I'm happy with that.
With this setup I get at 60 Watt a warm tasteful vape. It seems to be the sweet spot. It also works on tc Mode.

When I go higher to 70 or 75 Watt I get dry hit wet when I take a long puff. In watt mode.

How should I build the coils to be able to use it with more power? Spaced, larger diameter? I would love to get some more reserves to the upside to create bigger clouds...

I'l get 29g wire soon. I'll try it with that gauge.

I understand, shorter ramp up brings higher risk of dry hits. My question how can I compensate that?

Length of hit is a factor as heat will accumulate in the coil and the atomizer chamber over time.

Yes 30G is quite a light wire. I would be using 26G at those power levels myself.

Atomizing e-liquid is a balancing act.
Airflow, power and wicking all need to be in balance with each other. Too much power not enough juice, scorchio. Enough juice but not enough air to cool the coil, scorchio.

It's a journey of experimentation and discovery. You are a vapornaught launched into space. Enjoy.

I'm going to say what a doc would say, "If you get a dry hit, don't turn it up more."

Although yes, there are a lot of factors to be considered to avoid that outcome. Wicking can be major, I find rayon withstands higher heat, airflow, juice and build all have to be balanced. I'm not entirely sure that I really "know" what the issue is but experimentation is always useful and will build your coiling and wicking skills as you experiment. Good luck!

Thank you guys. I'm still vaping with these 30g coils. Actually it's quite nice in Temperature mode. 230celsius at45Watt. That prevent it from dry hits. Flavor is nice, clouds are a bit limited. These coils are limited regarding to the range how they operate nicely. That doesn't leave any space to play around with different wattage settings. Batteries holds much longer. Massively longer :) I wanted to build coils with fast ramp up. That was successful. Now I go from there....

The 28g twisted coils I used before was impressive. No dry hits even at 130 watt and chain vaping. But...they needed some time to heat up. With that the bottom of the atty (around the AFC) was always wet. With that, I'm not sure if I for now should stick with twisted or parallel coils. I want to build those coils by myself. I believe the experience is more intensive. And it's a good practice anyways.

I find twisted coils excessively spitty.

I agree, particular when there is a little less cotton.

I just built two new coils. This time more wraps and 4mm diameter. This setup needs definitely higher wattage. I'm now at 85 watt and it feels good. I have to stress test it. Want see how far I can go.

Edit: Ok, 85 was too high. But now with 65 and 70 watt it seems to generate great flavor and clouds. It heats up as well. So far I like it.

A great vape is not necessarily measured by the quantity of vapor.
Sure, you are absolutely right. Just for fun I want blow some vape ;) Or at least I want to have the possibility to do so...if I want. ;)

Interesting: These new coils gives a reading of 0.52 Ohm. It seems the TC mode desn't like these coils. It doesn't work well.

With these coils and decent airflow no issues at 135 Watt. It wicks very well. Don't get me wrong, it isn't my goal to vape at the most highest wattage. I started to vape 3 weeks ago on a regulated mod. The entire topic is absolutely amazing. A lot to learn. Before I can find my sweet spot, I have to explore some areas. Of course, always within the battery safety.

I wouldn't have thought that different coils can make such a huge difference. That makes it very interesting.

When I bought the rba, I had issues to properly wick it. In hindsight, I can't even say what I did wrong. After countless tries I guess I'm quite good now at it :)

I appreciate everyone who participate in this topic. I can only learn.

Which wire and gauge would you suggest? 26ga * 2 + 38ga seems to be quite common.
I got a little bag of coils free with an order from Vapehappy. I think I threw out the bag. If I can find it I will post the specifics. They are great coils. .25 ohm singles. Really wide but flat. Ramp up fast and produce tons of vapor. They look like this...

They look like quad core with a pretty thin wrap. I think AVS has something pretty close.
