Just a suggestion, but a serious one. I used cigalikes when I first started vaping, but honestly, the hassles outweighed the "simplicity". I really think it doesn't get much simpler/easier than a REO grand with a decent atomizer. If there's a problem, chuck the atty and screw on a new one. Dead simple. I'd think they can easily get the hang of, and understand the squonking part, it's really just refilling the atty without carrying around a bottle of juice.

Give them your grands, a good supply of low ohm (1.5ish) 510 atty's from REOsmods, batteries and a charger, then get yourself 2 new LP grands, fresh batteries and treat yourself to a new charger, for being the fine person you are and doing what you can to save your parent's health. Just sayin' :)

This is a dilemma I have thought about many times over the past 3 years. I watched so many people fail and I'm at the point now where I would only tell someone to start on a REO. I wouldn't even tell someone new about flavored juices at this point either - I'd set them up with mixing 50/50 unflavored on their own, and I would keep it simple - no syringes, no beakers - just marks on a bottle.

Its the coil building that is the issue - if there was a bottom-fed FLüXomizer-type unit, that would be perfect. I think anyone can build coils because I learned, but it's the eyesight issues and the metering that concerns me. I am only almost 50 and I have to use a lighted magnifying lamp.

Ok total change of plans:

Here's the setup. Hers on left, his on right :
DaA28u1.jpg

Damn that 1.7 SS carto kicks some AYuss with 24mg nic and the new contacts :)
I will be switching it out for one of those longer black cartos like on the VV grand. I haven't filled or vaped that one yet :) I will also dig up a long drip tip for the VVG as cartos and short tips = high potential for juice lip :)

I started with those colored and clear tips, so can they :)

I'm gonna give them my I4 (I'll use a WP II cause I run primarily 18650s these days), 3 AW IMR 18650 2000 mah, 4 AW IMR 18350s, a bunch of cartos and a bunch of juice.

I'll be giving blind squonking, juice filling, not overtightening cartos and mod maintenance classes to them next week.

The vape is extremely satisfying on that grand with a carto :)

Next up: having them buy some RBAs and teaching them how to build but that's after there got their sea legs :)

Thanks again y'all :)

super_X, I've been meaning to tell you this for a while now, but I didn't want to upset you. Apparently, your parents never admitted to you that you were adopted as an infant. In fact, I am your biological father, and I am in dire need of some new equipment. And if it's not too much trouble, I would like one of those fancy Chalice atomizers on mine, as I am fully capable of building my own coils.

Sincerely,
ElConquistador_X_Drifter

P.S. Ignore my suggestion about those crappy iTaste VV3's, I was just joking around.

I'm a bit late to the game and it seems your mind is made up on the start of this en devour. When you think they are ready for a RM2 or a stainless RBA. I suggest wicking with RXW I just took apart my build that I made at the end of January a good full 5 months on it and it was the XC132 not RXW. Build was still vaping good but it looked bad so off to be rebuilt. (need to install the rebuild kit anyway) 5 months on a wick and coil I think they could deal with that. Good luck to your parents and I'm proud to be your friend and love the way you care for Mom and Pops.

If you are seriously giving up a couple of your grands, (which btw is Kick AYuss), why not get them some Cisco spec 306's or 510's just in case they don't care for the carto's...

Mike, I struggled with attys before RBA so I never learned how to use them :)

But great suggestion bro. I have a few for a contingency. Thanks for the suggestion :)

Reo + carto is a great vape and new user friendly. I hope they transition well with minimum frustration. Sure, they may forget to recharge the spare batteries or flood a carto, let a carto run too dry (yuck!), or slop some liquid about the place, but that's how we learn.

If you go over the Grand washing routine with your dad, please be sure to emphasize that sheet don't fly for the VV Grand. :p

Cisco spec 306's were the only atty I vaped prior to rebuildables. I used to get like 6 months out of those things, and that is without ever cleaning them...

If anyone on this forum can do it its you Super_X. The man that introduced us to microcoils certainly can pull this one off.
The only thing I might add is have patience. Teaching us old dogs new tricks 'aint always easy... but if they really want to quit smoking (and they do) your guidance will be giving them a whole new life.

I've been through this with several friends- gave 3 Reo mini's away....they were all returned and everyone quit vaping and back to smoking...just a learning curve that's too steep for them. We did get them sorted eventually and they were vaping again but it wasn't with a Reo, not at first...The latest thing I've done (and with great success) is giving away basic Ego Twists with a simple plastic tank set-up...pretty cheap- most vape shops sell starter kits in this configuration with a simple charging cable that goes with the set-up. These work well- my friends get the hang of upping the voltage if needed and when they are ready to move on to better things, they typically let me know.
