Woo hoo...
I got to have a little fun and chased a storm today... instead of having one chase me ...
Around 3:04pm... while still watching storm chasers trying to setup to catch a storm... I noticed on my radar that a small isolated cell popped up just to my South.... so I grabbed my camera and stepped outside to look it over and maybe get a shot...
Turns out, there were actually two small cells, the one I saw on radar and another to my SW.... The sun was streaming from behind the cell to the SW onto the one to the S of me...
This was the one a little to my south
And the one the sun was behind was pretty narly looking to my SW...
Well... after taking several shots... I went back inside to find out there were some very serious ones a long ways south of me and I turned on the news to see what they were saying... but not much longer, about 45 minutes later... the weather man reported someone had reported a tornado on the cell too my East ( the one that was originally south of me )... so outside I go again with my camera and I see this up over the house to my NE...
So I rush back inside ( after a few pics ) and gather up my other stuff I wanted to take... and jump into the Escape.... I phone up 3 of my friends that live out that direction and tell them to seek shelter and that the cell I thought was dying off... had ramped up and was producing a tornado.
As I was heading east towards the cell... after about 10 minutes I decided to pull into a shopping center parking lot to get another shot of it since it was pulling away faster than I could drive
through town...
After another 10 minutes or so of driving
through town, I finally got to the other side and pulled into the parking lot of one of our fire stations that sits on top of a hill on that side of town. I ended up taking pics for about another 30 minutes... if you look closely in them... on the lower left side of the towering clouds is actually a faint rainbow... the rainbow remained there
through most of the time but never got very vivid...
