I got my first pass through yesterday. It's a bit defective. I've already PMd Mark about it and awaiting reply.

I still have some questions though. Some of the issues I'm having might just be a pass though. It seems to be (when it's working) burning my carts. See it has a short in it... takes some wiggling and sometimes it just doesn't work at all so I have to unplug replug. Does this mean it's getting too much electricity so it's got to be reset or something? Then other times it won't shut off. Back to the burning carts... They don't feel like they're getting that hot but they get a burnt taste. I haven't opened one up yet to look at the inside.

I really could use the time to charge my batteries. :( Maybe my tastes could be changing as far as the burnt taste goes but.. I don't seem to be getting it so much from my batts.

I used the super glue method mentioned in another thread. It helps but hasn't fixed it. Still have the original issues just happen less often. If a pass through is going to give my juice a burnt taste I don't think I'll want to use them at all.

I also wonder if rinsing my carts in Vodka or Everclear might help... hmmmm.... would a strong white rum work?

--- Oh and off topic... I was complaining about my dog pee stinky house the other day.. I pulled up the carpet last night. Doesn't look bad at all. In fact I'm loving it. Yeah!!!

i've noticed that i clear through or get the burny taste with carts when i use my PT, or, that yes, i clear through them faster. that doesn't solve the issue of if your cord has a short in it somewhere, but it's definitely something to keep in mind. two thirty minute drives of continuous vaping (i would say 2 to 4 hits every 5 or 10 minutes?) will just about clear through a cart for me. not as fast on my laptop (as it's car engine vs. macbook, lol) but pretty quickly.

i have also noticed that things taste a *little* different on my PT. mostly the menthols, as they are what i vape the most.

I use my PT with a macbook too and so far it does have a different type of taste feel, but not burnt tasting. I got that burnt taste when I first started opened the carts ... are you using fresh carts or "broken in ones"

I'm using both.. I just hope getting a new one will fix the problem.. this one's so touchy it's starting to freak me out a bit. Don't want to get shocked or fry the computer.. 8-o

My PT is touchy. It seems like the wire might be loose inside. Sometimes it doesnt work or it will hit stop then hit again.
Only get the "burnt taste" when the carts are done. You will be able to tell the difference in taste as you vape more carts to the end of their life span.

Yeah my carts were brand new though. Some I had just refilled and others where right out of the package. I just thought maybe the atomizer was getting so hot it was like burning the juice instead of vaping it or something  I don't know man... the longer this thread gets the more stupid I feel

Thats another thing, depending on how many times you hit it and how long a break you take between them will depend on the burnt taste too. I notice that if I keep puffin on it like an analog it gets burnt FAST! I sometimes mouth (put lips on cart) to feel if its getting hot or staying hot. If its hot I wait till it cools more.

Maybe they got a bad batch. My first passthrough (with my UU kit) died in just two months. I ordered a replacement and V4L sent an extra PT free! (Their great service, as usual). They just arrived Wednesday and the first one of those PTs has died in less than two DAYS!

Yes, I tried Taryn's SuperGlue method.

I hope, if V4L got a bad batch of PTs, that their China supplier replaces them with the same great service V4L gives US!

Plus I hope they figure out what the problem is. I know it's not V4L's fault.

We have gone thru over 10000 of these, and have less than 5% issues. We will make it better, though, and will have new modifications on next shipment:thumbs:

Bottom line, with our warrantee, I think you cannot match the PRICE/PERFORMANCE ratio of this 5 Volt wonder. I compare this passtrhu to ANY mod, and at the price...it is silly:w00t:

Enjoy

Well, it could just be 5%...or it could be that maybe it's not reported to you. I have 2 of the manual "hit/stop/hit/stop" PT's, but you guys gave them to me for FREE! I normally don't bother you guys with problems with freebies because I'm not going to have you replace something I didn't pay for, but maybe for statistical reasons these problems with freebies should be reported to keep better data. Would that be helpful?

5%? ... OMG 2% of that must be me. Sometimes it seems I go through passthrus like some people change underwear. I had one that lasted a couple months and then I've had a couple that lasted 20 minutes and just quit working and Ive had some that lasted somewhere in between. One I can genuinley say I ripped the wires right out of it by getting up quickly from my desk. Not a warranty item but guess what? They sent me one anyway.
I have to say that Steve is right in the fact that the passthrough is an awesome device and their customer service makes me not be concerned if I get a bad one. I do use mine heavily both in my car and at my desk which I work at for very long periods of time. I'm sure I am putting my passthroughs through a very heavy workout in both locations, switching out carts frequently to keep from overheating and changing flavors. I also know from messaging with Leaford that upgraded passthrus are on the way and further development of this device is also on the way. There are times that I don't report bad ones as I feel guilty asking for replacements so often and I wont report a bad one when they are freebees. In the end I have no complaints with V4L about this product. How can I when all I have to do is mention it and I get a new one. I have been a mechanic for a major part of my life and I know these are devices. Devices break. Devices don't always work correctly. At least V4L cares and replaces and looks into the issues we report to try to make the products better. Who can ask for more?

As a side note, I posted a couple of weeks ago that I had killed a PT.

Driving in the dark, moved my foot & it slid way to easily. The PT had fallen on the floor & I didn't know it. :(

Today I plugged a new PT into my adapter & it didn't work! :(

A little investigation revealed that my adapter had worked it's way out of the socket just a bit. I plugged it in & both PTs work! :)

if you use something to hold the wire in place where it comes out of the PT from the get go, it should fix the 'wiggly wire/short' issue. i use a pencil grip on mine--silicone pencil grips, about $1.50 for a pack of 10 from staples. takes some stretching to get it over the PT with the wire gently folded back along its length, but keeps the wire in place. you could just as easily use electrical tape (but not as prettily, lol). seems more reliable to me than the superglue method.
