Howdy all,

Just received my USB passthrough from Rocky Mountain. Got it plugged in and it works very nicely. After about three hits through the thing, the rubber plug that activates the switch slid up into the battery case, and I'll be damned if I can get it back out. Is there a way to disassemble a battery case? It's an 801 style. I sure don't see how it might come apart, although the cap that covers the light looks like it might be pried off.

The passthrough still works, but I sure do look silly pressing in on the switch with the point of my pocketknife.

Thanks!

Andy

Hi Andy, I've got several of the 801 manual batteries and passthroughs that have done this. POS the last lot of them was!!! Bad button design. Might want to contact the Supplier and ask if you can send them back. If not...

What I did was took a pair of sharp fine pointed tweezers, bent the very tip on one side to point in (made a little hook), and grabbed hold of the button (yea, they go way up there!). It took a while... but I did get it out. There are two miserable little tabs that are supposed to hold in the button... I put it back in, but have caught it sliding up again, so you'll have to keep an eye on it. Glue isn't an option.

At least you still have the button! I have one passthrough that the button fell in the .... between my console and car seat. I'm NOT feeling around blind in in old cheetos, spilled coffee and who knows what else is down there to retrieve it!

Thanks, Jim and Hellen-- I was able to get it back in place once I remembered that I have some dental picks. Hellen, you're right, it's an amazingly bad design. I'm thinking about skewering the rubber dealie with a fine wire in order to keep it from sliding back in again. That idea works with a sewing needle, I've learned-- but leaving it that way would result in many unpleasant and bloody stabbings, to be sure.

LOL... Jim, those are PETRIFIED cheetos. Good for a nice arty mini sculpture or flinging at someone in road rage perhaps. Don't even wanna think about my caffeine options if I run out of coffee...

Yeah Andy, as cheap as these things are, I suppose we'll just have to keep an eye on the button. I have a tendency to push up with my thumb... and I suppose it is my own fault it is dislodging. I did try to gently pry up the button area underneath a bit since it seems to sit too low, but I'm afraid I'll ruin something.

I understand that lots of these have been reported because of the button. Wish they'd make them as nice as the 510 button is. THAT is good button design. You might see if your supplier can get you some button replacements from the factory. I have some coming myself.

What's crazy-making is that the manual battery I got with the shipment has a big, sturdy, un-screw-up-able button on it. Maybe if I got a bunch of manual batteries.... hmmm... you know, just for the spare buttons...

If I could figure out how to take the case apart, I could hotwire the thing and just put a switch in the USB cable. This whole vaping thing is starting to appeal to the Popular Mechanics side of my personality.

Thanks for the tip, Hellen, I'll ask Rocky Mountain about replacement buttons when I place my inevitable next order.

A.
