I recently made a Nicostick (the first one with the AAA size battery case)

Thanks to nicowolf for this awesome mod.

- but I also made a usb battery to go in it to use it as a passthrough.

Hopefully this minor tweak will be helpful to current and potential NicoStick users.

Here's what you'll need:

1 complete AAA version Nicostick already finished

1 cheap ball point pen

2 screws

2 screw anchors

1 spare usb cable

epoxy

soldering iron

Disassemble the pen and keep the tube, it should be about the same width as a AAA.

Cut the tube to where it is a little shorter than a AAA battery (I just eyeballed it - maybe 1/16" shorter.

Screw each screw into the anchors, insert 1 of these into one end of your cut tube. Tip: Don't screw the screws in all the way, leave about 1/16" of the actual screws exposed - this is where you will solder your wires.

Load up the tube with epoxy so the middle of the tube is full. Insert the other screw/anchor in the other end.

Make sure the screws stay straight in the tube as the epoxy dries.

While this is drying, prepare your usb cable by cutting off one of the plugs.

Strip the outer black sheath about two inches or so and locate the positive and negative wires, and strip back the sheath on those. Any extra wires can be cut back to the black sheath.

Solder the positve wire to one screw, negative to the other. Then tighten the screws the rest of the way into the anchors (snugly but not too tight)

Solder a little "bump" to the top of the screw connected to the positive wire. Solder this in the center of the screw head. This will mimick the "bumb" found on the positve end of a battery.

Once this was complete, I wrapped the whole thing in electrical tape, to protect the wires and to keep them stable. I ran the slack of each wire down the side of our new usbbattery until they meet. Then tape it all up to make things neat.

Place your new battery into the Nicostick so that the wires are hanging over the side opposite of the atomizer assembly. You will need to cut out a slot in the nico stick so the wires are recessed a little. This allows the battery cover to slide into place without pinching the wires.

Congrats! you now have a NicoStick with passthrough option.

I took some pictures with my crappy camera (can't find macro mode), but I also can't find my data cable (darn micro-mini usb!!!!) I'm off to sleep soon, but if you want pics, I'll try to get them to you tomorrow.

Hope this helps.

Moonlighter, just message Nerf and he'll be able to assist you. He a great guy and super helpful in so many areas.

You all have no idea how thankful I am for all of you! You guys have helped me in ways that I can't even begin to explain. Once again, thank you so very much!

Mr. Slippery, my son says he wants to take a crack at your method and see what he comes up with. He loves to mess around with stuff like that.

Nice job on the usb battery there, but I should caution you guys with nicosticks w/ LEDs to make sure you have the correct resistor before trying this. Your standard nicostick is going to pull 3.7-4.2v, with USB you'll be pulling 5v and that extra voltage *could* fry your LED if your resistor is only sized for 4.2v.

Alright, I'm 2.5 weeks in to the the whole e cig thing, and I have to say I got the bug.

After the 1st week I got all the stuff to DIY liquid. I could not stop there. I had to scrape the paint off my perfectly good 901 battery to show off the stainless, Got a little over zealous so the atomizer is stainless too. I liked the green led so much i swapped the orange and green one so the green one lights up when smoking.

I couldn't wait for a battery to die to make a usb passthrough, so i went to radio shack and got a N type DC power connector.

With out too much detail, I have just a switch in line and now have 4.99v to the atomizer. This thig's cooking now, I cant even hang in the a 5 sec hit, with this thing. I end up feathering the throttle a bit, if you will. How long can i expect the atomizer to last?
Can any one throw a p/n out for a resistor to bring it down to about 4.6- 4.8v?

oh yeah mad props to all the modders who practice open source.

Hi Nerf,
How much do you charge for a PT mod?, and do you accept paypal? Shipping cost? Where are you located?
As a matter of fact, do you have a MOD that's similar to the Janty Stick? THAT would be awesome! :))

Thanks a bunch. I was gonna PM you but I think more people in this thread want to know. You can just pm me the answer if you don't want to post it, and in the meantime if you guys(OP and posters) have the same questions you can just post +1 and wait for nerf's PM.
Have a great day!:thumb:
