This is why I have a land line they can't send me texts and if I don't know the caller I don't answer, and I never give out my cell number to anyone.

im like the complete opposite, my landline has been bombarded so much with telemarketers I dont even bother answering or using it anymore. I just have two cell phone #'s now. It basically got to the point where like 90% of the calls were from people I dont know or people trying to sell me stuff. Now I just use my landline # when I do signups for stuff thats not important.

What we all need to understand is, if you have ever posted your phone number, address, birth date or whatever anywhere on the net, it is already out there on a list somewhere.

You don't do online banking you say----well, your bank does, so your info is already there. I have had a paypal account since 1999 and don't plan on closing it. All of my info (and your info) is already out there on a list or several lists somewhere so closing my/your account would be like closing the gate AFTER all the cows were already out.

We must each do whatever we are comfortable with. Like Brkdnc, I have a land line for the telemarketers. Mine has No text, no caller ID and the volume turned down low.. Just an answering machine in case it is a message I want to listen to.

Landline? People still have those? I haven't had a home landline phone in 15 years.
I keep mine because it is tied to my dsl. We are country folks so it is the best option for us. No long distance calls can be made on it, no caller ID. In fact nothing but incoming and 911.

Aspire had issued a C&D order with PayPal since FT was selling clones of the nautilus. FT immediately removed all Aspire clones and to this day only sells authentic Aspire products. However PayPal at the time was still accepting payments for other ecig-related stuff from FT no problem. This was early last year if I remember correctly.

And yet people splatter their personal drama all over Facebook...
All the while posting pics of their kids and grandkids - where the work/ go to school/ hang out - and we're worried we may get a text solicitation?
Humans...when I get back to my planet oh the stories I'll have to tell my leaders!

No land line here for a couple of decades either.

I've had an EvilBay acct almost since it's day one, I buy only on it. Also have had PenaltyPay almost from it's day one. It will be interesting to see how this plays out. They do not have a valid phone number for my accounts. The current one they have WAS a voice mail service number only I had for 6-7 years where messages left were sent to me as a sound file via email to an addy they also never had. I do not have that service anymore, not for a long time, and I have never updated my accounts with another phone number. I will never give them a current one that they can call or text, so if they try to force the issue I will refuse and close out. Without them EvilBay will also become a thing of the past as well. As for the ECF Classies, I have bought there many times, but I have never sold anything there. Under their current rules I doubt that will change. Without PP the buying there would stop too.

I didn't post this thread to ask you to close your Pay Pal accounts. I was letting you be aware of what they are doing, and then you would do what you feel was best. I don't do social media at all. I hate to get unsolicited calls, and texts. I am on no call lists for both the house phone, and cell phone. I must have the house phone, because I have dsl, and the phone company won't let me pull the plug, AND keep my internet. If you want them calling you with sales pitches, and polls etc... by all means keep it. Frankly I hope they catch enough fuss about it, that they will make it an opt in thing, not an opt out deal. Just the fact they think it is okay bothers me. I have had some personal info taken at more than one place. So yes, I am more perturbed by this, than some may be. My info was at one time for sale on a black market site. I don't know how much they had. But every piece they can manage to have, puts the puzzle together. I have a no soliciting sign on my door at home. I sure don't want it entering my house, with texts, or calls.

Another reason I don't have a paypal account anymore.

They don't need this information, they use it to track your purchase history and sell the data to marketing firms.
The more data, the easier it is to streamline the profile of the individual consumer.
Information is currency.

I buy thousands of dollars worth of mods, some used, some not... But none here.
This is also why I'm not in the ECF classifieds.
PayPal isn't a respectable third part verification, it's a personal security liability.

I still keep a landline, because there are times when it can come in handy, in the case of certain emergencies or blackouts.

Cellphones will often become useless in the case of a big emergency. I remember 9/11, and the whole cell system basically broke down (I'm in NYC), because everybody and their brother tried to use their cell phones, overloading the entire system.

Having a landline in addtion to cell lines at least gives me another option, should anything go wrong.

Confirmed. Paypal is no longer a payment option on Fasttech - not even for just batteries.

But back to OP - isn't there such a thing as data protection. I know you are meant to agree to the terms of service but how legal is it for any company offering any service to force you to consent to something you don't wish to consent to?

Yeah, I know. We did not have one for 10yrs or so ether however Frontier gave us a discount on our internet connection on a package deal that was greater than the cost of the land line.

    We've never used it.

Recently we plugged in a AIO printer into it and found that some idiots were calling it a 1/2 dozen or more times a day. After setting the AIO speaker to OFF, we set it to answer on the 1st ring. It took a few months but I think the telemarketers got the idea finally as the # of failed incoming calls in the AIO's .log have dropped considerably. :)

The selling of phone lists and address lists has been around way longer than the existence of PayPal. PayPal is just a more recent player. If you have a bank account, pay for stuff with a credit or debit card, write checks, have a drivers' license, are registered to vote, own a house, etc., your info is out there, and up for sale.

The sad thing to me is I have been an Ebay member, and Pay Pal, just about from the beginning. They think they can do anything they want, and we will just suck it up. Just because you CAN do something, doesn't make it right. I wonder how many knew about the Bill Me Later terms? I think it is connected to Pay Pal. So this tells me whomever is in charge of Pay Pal, thinks they can manipulate the people who keep them in business. I read about cars of the future having ads from Google I think it was, inside of it. I have ads displayed on my email page. I never click on them. But they have now become so flashy and gaudy, that it hurts my eyes sometimes. That is a little different. They start with something small, and then work their way up. If your phone number is on the no call list, you obviously don't want to be disturbed. If I get sales calls on my cell phone, they are invading my privacy. Not everyone has free texting. I don't like texts, I still stick with email. I only have your basic cell phone. My home is my security, and my wall to keep the world out, even temporarily. With their new terms, they can invade your personal space. I rarely use PP or Ebay anymore. It is nice though, from time to time. But I am beginning to think it is more trouble than it is worth.
