Pen style recommendations ... for heavier vaping

So I started vaping by using Logic rechargeable sold at gas stations. The clerk, knowing I had quit smoking the week before, refused to sell me cigarettes and insisted I try vaping. And so the journey began ... close to six months off cigs and will never go back!

Anyway, it's time for me to get a proper set-up. I currently I own about 5 Logic batteries and blank cartomizers which work OK for me though battery life is shortening. Next I jumped in and ordered two Boge batteries and a bunch of 510 cartomizers (2.0) Nice vape - for about 5 minutes. Batteries die out super fast.

I really want to stick with a pen style but I'm thinking I need more power for a longer lasting battery and whatever would produce a heavier vape hit. Note that I have a ton of 510 cartomizers around so it would be cool if they fit but not essential.

Oh, and I'm on a budget so unfortunately price is a factor.

Long story short: Can you please recommend a reasonably priced pen style with good battery life that will produce a heavy vape hit? 510 comparable a plus! Thanks so much in advance! :)

As size seems important to you and battery life, it's a balance. Obviously the bigger the battery, the better the battery life.

I would recommend something like a Vision spinner or a Twist. you can get them from around 400mAh up to about 1300mAh. Most people seem to figure each 100mAh gives around 1 hour of moderate vaping time. I guess technically they are not really pen style as they are quite thick, but they can hardly be described as bulky.

They both have ego and 510 connections so you'll be able to use your cartos, and they both are available in a range of colors so you can pick one to match the rest of your vaping gear. They also both are variable voltage so you can change your vaping experience with a simple twist of the bottom dial - turn it up for hotter and more flavor, turn it down for milder and less of a hit.

My starter setup was 2 1300mAh spinners - I still use them occasionally as they provide an excellent vape for the form factor.

Both batteries can be had for around $20 each so they are budget friendly too.

Yes that's right. As I said, most on the boards figure for every 100mAh you get about an hour of vaping time.

I would say that estimate is a little on the ambitious side. My 1300mAh spinners would last about a full 9 hours of pretty heavy vaping before needing a complete charge. Charging time is around 5-6 hours, so you will need two batteries to swap out so you can use one while one is charging.

Stupid question but is it the higher the Mahs the longer the battery life?

Yes... a very general rule of thumb is about an hour per hundred mah (though I think that's a bit generous... it does depend a lot on how you vape.)

The twists and spinners would be good... if you want to go a little further you might consider the iTaste vv v3.0. About the same size as the twists/spinners, and a few more features (variable wattage, puff counts, built in ohm meter). It's 510/ego threaded so your existing stuff will fit. And it's a "passthrough" meaning you can vape off of it while you charge it on the wall charger, computer or car charger.

You can get the express kit for $29.99 (w/free shipping) or expand to the starter kit to get some clearomizers, etc. I got mine here: Itaste VV 3 0 Starter Express Kit Authentic Guranteed The Latest wth More Rivets | eBay

Good luck!

I'm not exactly sure what a pen style is? Someone clue me in.
I totally agree with InTheShade 100%. They will always have a place in your vaping needs.

Good luck

Thanks. By "pen style" I mean a very thin battery that is about the circumference of a pen. An example would be the Logic or Blu brands they sell at gas stations. I prefer them because they're lighter and less bulky. Unfortunately I may have outgrown them.

Emmay,

You can get a very satisfying setup with something like a 1300 mAh spinner or twist, or (I recommend) the Inokkin VV V3. These are more like "marker-size" than "pen size" but still fit comfortably in your pocket. (Breast pocket!) So if this form factor is important to you, there's no need to give it up.

But they are somewhat limited in vaping time compared to other stuff out there; if you want to widen your horizons take a look at the MVP2.0. Not as big as a tube mod, all the convenience of the "pen-styles" and lasts forever. (Edit - Between charges. It should last about 2 days on a single charge)

Your 510 cartos will work with all of these (and with lots of other stuff too!)

This isn't really a pen style, but I use a Halo Triton 450mah with a G6 Tank and a cone. The batter life seems to last a lot longer than my old Green Smoke eCigs. The diameter is a bit larger, but it works for me. I got this because I ride a motorcycle, and wanted something I could fit in my pocket without being super bulky. Here's a pic of it next to a Green Smoke eCig for reference. I don't know if these are 510 compatible though.

The Halo's are smaller but are kr808d-1, not 510. I guess you could use those with an adapter, but that's not a very good approach, IMO.

I've already suggested the iTaste vv.... but my other advice is, if you go with a twist or spinner, get an authentic Joye (twist) or Vision (spinner), not a knockoff. Some knockoffs are good, some aren't but the price difference is not really that great... best to go with the name brand batteries.

Wow, thank you so much for the advice! I checked of the other thread and am still trying to sort out what the differences are.

It seems like I'd be best off with a twist/spinner or Halo. I'm not locked into the 510s since I got them real cheap. Also saw Triton(?) recommended on other thread. I'm also not locked into cartomizers - I guess I'm just used to them.

So final question: best throat hit, vape, battery life in a smaller set-up?
Spinner/twist? Halo? Triton? (And what type of Carto or ato?)

Thank you so much again. This can be confusing and I don't have the budget to keep trying different types until I find the right one. I really appreciate it!

Hi, and welcome. I'm currently in love with my MVP 2, but had Vision Spinners before I got it. I still use the Spinners when I'm out and about in my car. I got the Spinners instead of the Twist, because I have "old eyes" and some folks said the markings for adjusting on the bottom were easier to read on the Spinners than the twist, if that matters to you.

I started out with regular ego batteries and Evod clearomizers. I like the Evod clearomizers a lot, and they fit on any ego style threads, so I can use them on the egos, the Spinners and also my new MVP. I didn't want to have a bunch of stuff that's not compatible with each other. Keep it simple is my motto.

The Evod toppers are easy to find online, and also relatively inexpensive, so I can have several loaded with different juice to rotate throughout the day. Also, the heads are only about $1 to replace, vs. up to $3 on other types. I'm on a fixed income budget, so cost is a factor for me.

Here is a link to take a look at the Evods. This is a reliable vendor and they are on sale right now for $4.99. If you use the code ECF at checkout, you get 10% off, too:

That is impressive. Kudos to you for quitting, and Kudos to him for helping.

I'm a touchy feely type. So, what I'd suggest is go to your local vape shop(s). Shopping Only (if possible), find something you like. Keeping in mind what you think you want and the suggestions received here. Decide what you want. Now here's the hard part. Go home and compare prices on-line. If the local shop has the item(s) "reasonably priced", helpful and friendly, go for it or keep shopping or order on-line and wait for delivery.

The 510/eGo thread is now the de facto standard; avoid the 808/901 etc. Don't put too much money in them; I'm still looking for adapters to make use of stuff I bought a year ago.
