PA Senator Tim Solobay (Washington County) is urging all Pennsylvanians to contact their local state senators to get Senate Bill 1055 moving to prohibit the sales of e-cigarettes and accessories to minors under the age of 18.

My legislation would make it crystal clear to Pennsylvania residents and retailers that e-cigarettes should not be sold to anyone under the age of 18. Most Pennsylvanians don’t realize that the laws that apply to the sale of traditional cigarettes do not apply to electronic cigarettes. My legislation would fix that.

He recognizes that e-cigs are a useful tool FOR ADULTS...

Electronic cigarettes could prove to be a useful tool for adult smokers to wean themselves off tobacco use. While the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is still considering regulations on e-cigarettes, more than half of states have already outlawed sales to minors. Pennsylvania should quickly join them in order to prevent use of any nicotine products among our children.

He introduced the bill earlier in the year, but no action has apparently been taken as of this time.

A show of hands of all the vapers that started smoking way before they were 18...most, all? The law would ensure anyone under 18 could not enjoy the benefit of quitting early.

I would not want to see non-smokers starting to vape, even 0 nic, but the number of smokers under 18 should also be able to save themselves.

I'm with you on the 'logical' side of things Stosh, however, to be seen as a mature and responsible market the 18 age limit will be pushed through, under agers who 'smoke' will undoubtedly use that same cunning to switch to a safer alternative should they so choose-regardless of any age limits set-it's the real world scenario.

I just read this:

LETTER: Pa. should prohibit sales of e-cigarettes to minors

Express-Times Letters to the Editor
By Express-Times Letters to the Editor on November 29, 2013 at 12:57 AM

Although there are several important issues facing the General Assembly in the fall and winter, I am urging my colleagues to give priority to making sure minors can’t purchase electronic cigarettes.

Earlier this year, I introduced Senate Bill 1055, which would make it crystal clear to residents and retailers that e-cigarettes should not be sold to anyone under the age of 18. Most Pennsylvanians don’t realize that the laws that apply to the sale of traditional cigarettes do not apply to electronic cigarettes. My legislation would fix that.

Electronic cigarettes have grown in popularity, particularly among individuals trying to switch from regular cigarettes. Many retailers might not know how to monitor and regulate the purchase of e-cigarettes.

Electronic cigarettes could prove to be a useful tool for adult smokers to wean themselves off tobacco use. While the Food and Drug Administration is still considering regulations on e-cigarettes, more than half of states have already outlawed sales to minors. Pennsylvania should join them to prevent use of any nicotine products among our children.

I urge Pennsylvanians to call on their state senators to move Senate Bill 1055 and vote to protect Pennsylvania children.

If this is a plain no sales to anyone under 18, we should support this. Especially since it would take the wind out of the sales of another Pennsylvania legislator who is making a push for treating them like cigarettes. I can't remember the lady's name at the moment. I just know her district is near or in northwest Philadelphia.
