I just got a large order from Perfumer's Apprentice, and got one of their newest flavors, 'Sour'. It's pure malic acid (the stuff they make sour candy with) mixed with PG.

I am vaping this stuff with an Tornado tank setup, otherwise known as the Ego-T.

I added the Sour to a premixed Peach flavored e-liquid (from Evapers) that I happen to enjoy, to see if it makes a 'Sour Peach'. Here's my experience:

I'm not getting any sourness on my tongue from the addition of ~15% Sour liquid. However, I am getting that 'Electric Shock' feeling you get in your jaw when you eat a sour candy. It's really strange to get that feeling without having a sour taste in your mouth. After several vapes, I am still getting zero sour taste in my mouth.

So to summarize:

Flavor: 0/10 (No detectable flavor)
Sour jaw shock: 10/10 (If you are into that kind of thing)

Don't buy this unless you want to use it to make sour candy or something.

Hi AllYourBase.
FVxh8.gif
Thanks for sharing your feedback re: PA's new Sour. Just wanted to clarify though...it's not dextrose, lol. It's 10% malic acid, and the rest is plain PG.

I agree though - at this low concentration, it's not strong enough. Like you can put a drop of the flavouring directly on your tongue...and sure, it's sour, but nowhere near a "tearjerkers gumball" kind of sour. Plus it fades almost immediately.

I wrote to Linda about it, and she said that pure malic acid crystals are available now on the site as well.

Perfumers Apprentice - Malic Acid (crystals)

So I'm gonna order some, and then dissolve as much as I can into plain PG (or triacetin). Linda said that beyond 50%, the crystals won't dissolve anymore. So we'll try 50% PG with 50% crystals & then give the Sour a fresh go-around. Meanwhile, Linda says she's going to up the amount to 20% in the premixed flavouring.

Five times as strong as the presently available Sour should result in a nice sour party in your mouth. At least, that's my hope. I think the problem was just that 10% malic acid in the flavouring itself was too weak, that's all. I believe if we up the concentration...it'll be possible to create a sour enough juice that still has the accompanying fruit flavour etc, while it simultaneously rips the desiresd zing of potent sour across your tongue.

Anyway thanks again, & we'll post as soon as we know!

Oh thanks Rachel - I don't know why I wrote dextrose there... It's been a long night. :D I edited my original post to fix the error. You're right though - tasting the sour flavor on its own truly shows how weak the concentration is. Definitely nowhere near a tearjerker-type level.

I'll try picking up some of those malic acid crystals in the near future too... I love sour stuff, and I really want this to work! Definitely pop in here and let us know how the 50% mix goes when you get your order.

Thanks for letting the people at PA know.

If you're still looking for a good 'sour' liquid, I've been vaping "Super Sour" from freedomsmokeusa. LOVE IT! About to order a new bottle. I mix it with all kinds of fruity flavors to get that 'sour fruity candy' thing. It tastes like sour patch kids on its own, but I've added it to their gummy worm....Fantastic! Also really like a little of the super sour added to fire and ice (cinn/menthol) type flavors. Really intriguing, and you only need to add a few drops to other flavors to get that slight pucker action. Really terrific on its own, too.
