VG itself is a sweetener, when vaped by itself, it has a slightly sweet taste. Your mix might need to steep for some more time before the flavor really comes out, with my tobacco mixes I generally steep for 1-2 weeks.
If you are talking about PG/VG percentage:
more PG: more TH, less vapor, less sweetness
more VG: less TH, more vapor, more sweetness
A 80/20 PG/VG mix should be ok, the sweetness may come from your flavouring,
have you tried your mix without flavouring?
