PG=Propylene Glycol, thinner, more throat hit, flavor, less vapor...VG-Vegetable Glycerin, thicker, somewhat muted throat hit, flavor, more vapor...a ratio upto 50/50 does well in a carto...pure VG does not do well in cartos and can shorten their lifespan...a small percentage of folks can have sensitivity issues with PG, an even smaller percentage with VG........

PG - thin, lets through the most flavor, the most nicotine TH, the most nicotine irritation

VG - thick, dulls everything PG lets through, makes thicker visible vapor

Most people use blends, and many methods of vaping only work well with thin blends. I use 80PG/20Vg in cartomizers. Ego or 510 tanks and reservoir cartos like the consistency of 30% or less though some thinner 50/50's may work. Carto tanks I think can use almost anything since the carto is surrounded by fluid and normal atomizers can use anything but in any case it needs to flow at least as fast as you vape it.

The big difference is VG is readily available while PG is not. I have to buy PG online. (I recently discovered PG is one of the ingredients in liquid extracts used in baking. So that's a possible alternative for me, anyways. You'll never know what you'll discover in the world of vaping. ;-) )

Since both VG and PG produce vapor, I thought I'd never need PG until I found out that menthol crystals don't mix with VG at all. You need PG. And it's amazing to see PG mixing well with menthol crystals like sugar to coffee. And the bond stays even if you add VG to the mix. I haven't tried it, but some say that alcoholic drinks like vodka is a good substitute for PG if you want to add a pinch of menthol crystals in your juice. Hmm... glycol...alcohol... (I haven't tried it, but I might as well do that when I run out of PG.) Neither VG nor PG adds to the TH for me. Strong menthol flavoring does.

Also, PG is an antibacterial (and antifungal?) preservative. Keeps nasties from growing in your juice if you use organic flavors. Not sure if VG is too; I do know that VG doesn't seem to spoil in and of itself.

For a high VG/PG ratio, some thin their VG with distilled water, about 80% VG / 20% water to get it to the consistency of PG.
