Hey guys my wife is finally ready to give up the stinkies ,but we have discovered she has a severe allergy to PG . Due to not being able to find a totally organic eliquid ive bought supplies to make my own for her . She wants to vape a straight menthol. So i have a menthol additive in 100%vg , 100mg nicotine in 100% vg ,VG, and PGA . My question is this can I use the PGA as a direct replacement for PG with ratios for mixing to get the viscosity i need for use in a tank . I dont want to scre this up. Just looking for some advice.

Afaik yes. A small amount of water can work as well.

Pointless additional info:
I went for straight VG myself as soon as I started DIY simply because it seemed like a simpler, safer chemical that caused fewer problems, and that way I wouldn’t need to have the annoyance of two bases to deal with. To date I have never had a problem myself with VG being too viscous to work in any atty I have tried. I haven’t tried all attys though, and there are people who claim that for certain attys it is too thick. If I ever do my plan is to add distilled water bit by bit until it stops being a problem. I keep distilled water around for other medical needs (yes I consider vaping a medical need) so it’s no additional effort for me.

No. PGA (pure grain alcohol) should not be substituted for PG. Something like PEG 400 can be used in place of PG, or, just use straight VG or VG diluted with a few percent of distilled water (not tap water) to thin it a bit if needed (I mix a MaxVG liquid for someone who is PG sensitive and use 95%VG and 5% DW and it is working fine in all her tanks).

As a direct (1:1, same amount,) replacement? NO. It would not only thin out the e-liquid too much, but would also leave the resulting mixture quite harsh. There are also health concerns with inhaling large amounts of ethyl alcohol.

You could use PGA at a significantly lower level, than the PG... and arrive at a similar viscosity to the original recipe. However, the result may still be unpleasantly harsh, depending on you wife's preferences.

Small amounts of distilled water can also be used as a "thinner"... with less likelihood of adding harshness.

Depending on the device(s) your wife is going to use... and whether the VG has already been diluted with water (sometimes added as an intentional thinner)... and if the menthol concentrate, or nicotine concentrate, has been thinned with ethyl alcohol and/or water (both are better solvents for menthol crystals)... you may not require any additional thinning.

Personally, I would first make a small tester batch just using the VG ingredients you have, and see how she likes it. And, how well it does (or doesn't) wick in the set-up she will be using. Then, adjust as needed.

Honestly, the need to thin; is dictated by the atomizer being used, and how it is being vaped. Many (most?) of today's attys are designed to accommodate high/max VG e-liquids. But, if she is using an older atty, and/or chain vapes... then there may be a genuine need to thin out a more viscous e-liquid.

Water works well in surprisingly small percentages. I am PG sensitive, so I use PEG400 I like it because it is a flavor carrier like PG. I'm not sensitive to it, and my mixes are much nicer than if I used only VG. Nicotine River carries it. Do your due diligence. I mean, I did and found nothing alarming but you probably should do it for you if you wind up interested.

I diy 100% menthol pg free juice. DW works fine, I use menthol crystals so I do use PGA for that. I allow my menthol mixer to “breath” to allow the alcohol to evaporate. You really only need a few drops of DW to thin your ejuice out.

safe distance from a black hole
I use 10% to 15% DW with VG
11% or 12% is about right for me flavourless but when flavours etc are involved 3% to 6% seems to keep a "rounder" note on the flavours. Kinda more "bloom" .... im using guitar terms to describe the affects dw has on flavours. Sorry.

Due to not being able to find a totally organic eliquid
Might like to take a look at a few VG only e liquids:
e liquid vg only - Google Search

Might like to take a look at a few VG only Flavors:
9ml Sample Size
100% VG FLAVORINGS
Nature's Flavors Concentrates
"Nature's Flavors Concentrates
"totally organic":
"Everything around us is made of chemicals, from the scents of flowers and trees wafting through the air to the organic sun-ripened berries we eat, even every single part of our bodies! Every form of matter is, at some level, made of chemicals. What we taste and smell when we eat is the result of our bodies reacting to these chemicals. Both artificial and natural flavors contain chemicals, and often they contain the same chemicals, they just come from different sources."

What tank does she use?
We havent gotten that far yet really when she tried vaping the first go around it was about four years ago when we discovered the issue with the PG and it made her swear off vaping but ive convinced her to give it another shot. At that time i /we were using an I Clear 16 B 1.8 ohm will probobly be using a nautilus or another MTL tank.

I'd start with vg + 7% distilled water. Some use dw as high as 15%. 7 is a good starting point for mtl tanks.
