I love elk meat.. I only got to hunt them once when I lived in colorado. My friend and I both bagged a decent sized cow. I live to hunt :)

Technically I have never been hunting... Unless you count when I went out with my pellet gun as a kid and shot a bird, then began to feel bad about it lol

Maybe for elk.. but for hunting birds they are really good helpers. Hows the elk hunting up there? I would love to shoot an elk.

It's the best hunting in the country according to the hubby! I've talked about moving other places, but the hubby won't go as wherever I mention, the hunting isn't good. The thing about the elk hunting is, you need to be good with a bow and arrow... He can hunt elk during rifle season, but the elk are in the rut only during bow season! My husband is all about the elk, but my friends husband knows a perfect spot for black bear and he gets one every year. I'd kind of like the hubby to get a buffalo tag because the meat is about the best you have ever tasted.

On a side note, I am personally against hunting. I don't see the point. The hunters say it is to fill the freezer, but I am surrounded by "hunters" and I see what they spend on the gear, licenses, butchering and taxidermy etc. and it is cheaper to just go the store and buy some meat.

Hopefully one day your hubby can convert you over to the dark side :) I absolutely love to hunt. Liscenses can get pricey, but I load my own ammo and process my own meat. Never had anything stuffed. I do chop off the deer antlers and mount them. Life would be too boring without hunting and fishing.

Columbian Redtail Boa

Boas are nicer then pythons!

I hear elk jerky is good... Loves me some jerky

Dear jerky isn't bad either.

Hubby said to come on down next hunting season and he will take you on a phiniac hunting excursion (but the out of state licenses are not cheap. He has already gotten my son a bow and is getting him ready for his first bow season which is still 3 or 4 years off (I won't let him get the son a rifle)

Do any fishing Odie?

We have some of the best fishing here as well :p We have some huge trout right in our back yard (in a lake of course) Hubby did a bunch of fishing in Florida, but since he caught the hunting bug, he really has no interest anymore.

Do you live in the parts of texas near ocean? That's one thing that I definitely want to do before I die is ocean fishing..

Some great deep fishing in Florida!

He doesn't need to convert me. I don't believe in it, why shoot a beautiful animal when you can let him live... But I do not stop him from doing it in any way. Most of his Christmas presents are usually something hunting related, I don't stop him from going on his week long trips etc. He enjoys and that is all well fine, I just draw the line when he wants me to join him!

My biggest issue is the hunters here who pretend they are not killing for sport. You can purchase half a cow butchered here for what it cost to go hunting! If you butcher it yourself you can likely purchase the entire cow for a cost of a hunting season!

I would love to go hunting up there. I went to Glacier National Park (I think thats close to you) about 5 or 6 years ago and seen the most massive deer still in velvet. I would have given anything to shoot one.

I make trips up to Idaho every year or two to visit my dad, If I can afford an out of state elk tag I'll be showing up on your doorstep :D

I can almost see Glacier from my house... if there wasn't a mountain blocking it :p So yes, we are right by Glacier. It is an hour and 15 minute drive from my house, but keep in mind the grocery store is about a 40 minute drive from my house, so relatively speaking that is close!

While our out of state license is expensive, hubby says our out of state licenses are cheaper then any other and the elk license is one of the cheaper ones.

How are you with a bow, he would likely take you during rifle season, but elk hunting is always better during bow season!

I had a friend who lived in Montana for a decade -- when he was single he went three years without buying any meat, fowl, or fish as he was able to hunt and fish to his heart's delight and store what he could. He did say he only bagged the one elk -- it was too hard to drag it out of the brush!!!

I love to hunt with my bow. I have an older Matthews DXT, but it gets the job done. Archery season out here is during the rut as well. Makes it easy during rut when all the deer and elk can think about is getting laid. :)

I'm not saying that some don't hunt to fill the freezer I just don't see the point of it in todays day and age, I'm just saying that the majority do it for the sport and won't admit it.

Killing animals just doesn't get my juices flowing like it does some people here. I however have no problem with them doing it if it makes them happy. However, every time the hubby pops a cap in the ... of one of the many coyotes coming around to eat one of my beagles it puts a huge smile on my face!
