Yup to both

Well Leo looks like a very sweet boy.

Contrary to what most people think Pitt Bulls are some of the sweetest dogs out there! It is not there fault they are so very strong and if people would not train them to be mean they would have better reputations!

If it says anything about how gentle he is, when I got a baby female longhair mini dachshund she was maybe big enough to fit in my hand and he accepted her and hung around with her, never hurting her beyond knocking her onto her side by accident when he was walking.

Her name was Lola but she went missing one day after going to the front yard to potty and we never found any signs of her again

That is very sad... Shortly after I went to college my Mom called to tell me that my Norwegian Elk Hound went missing from the back yard. He was gone without a sign as well. I felt bad because I used to think he left to look for me.

I've been around tons of pits and I have yet to meat one that wasn't just a big sweet baby. The reputation they have gotten has always made me mad. They are actually on a short list of dogs my home owners insurance will not let me own!

I have not met a mean staffordshire terrier, I haven't met a mean pitbull either, I have met owners that should have their animals removed from them before the dog wasn't nice anymore. I have been bit by many dogs while training them, and I can say honestly it is because they have been inadvertantly trained to behave that way by someone who thinks being a good owner is putting down a bowl of food and letting the dog out back twice a day.

Ok the getting in your lap thing I can understand, my great dane does that.......ok all of my dogs are really well behaved, except maybe the great dane, I spoil him rotten, he is my best friend and closest companion, but we have rules to his misdeeds. He will steal food off my plate if I leave it sitting out on the counter or my table, he tries to climb into my lap. He will open the side door to the house and let himself in if I send him outside, it is kind of like a benny hill skit of chasing him around in circles, but he only does it when he wants to play. But if you give him a command he will always obey, actually all 4 of my dogs obey instantly.....The chihuahua was by far the hardest to train...All my animals are rescues, the great dane was found bloody in a parking lot, the pure chihuahua was given to us cause his owner couldn't train him, the other 2 dogs were strays that were in really bad shape and ill tempered when we got them.

I've worked for several vets as well as kennels before I went to college and to this day I have never been bit and I don't think I have met a dog I am scared of. I agree totally, dogs with bad temperaments are because of bad owners. And of course bad breeding practices can be a factor as well. Even well meaning owners can cause harm by not knowing the breeds needs. For example if you want a mean Rottweiler simply leave it tied up on a 4 ft chain all day every day and eventually he will become mean. Rottweiler's can not be chained up, they require space and exercise! Our Rottweiler lived to almost 14 years old and in all that time, he did not have a mean bone is his body!

As for our labs, they can stand to be a little bit better trained. They would not think of stealing food from a plate while we are awake, but once we go to bed that is another story... If someone leaves food out on the counter they seem to think it is fare game if no one is up to see them take it. Doesn't matter what it is, a wrapped loaf of bread, a closed box of cereal, if we are sleeping they think it was left there for them.

On a very rare occasion I've come down stairs in the middle of the night to find my older beagle boy standing on the kitchen table, but again bad behavior only happens when everyone in the house has gone to bed.

The funniest thing I have ever seen was my almost 200 lb English Mastiff decide he wanted to stand on the kitchen table... It only happened once, we turned around and there he was! He was a sweet well e behaved boy other then that one time... could of done with a little less drooling. He wouldn't have hurt a fly (unless he accidentally sat on it) but as soon as people saw him they got scared!

This is my best friend. It was taken about 6 years ago, his beard is all white now, my little old man, my gentle giant. he also fills 4 and a half 12inch times when curles up now.....He weights about 250, he is almost 4 feet and stands a little over 7 feet on his hind legs.

When I was a very little girl I had a friend with a great dane, we used to ride him like he was a horse and he loved it! (OK that came out sounding wrong... oh well)

The picture above of my mastiff was before he was full grown!
